Has anyone tried any CDs to help with severe anxiety?

Hi ladies
I'm new to this forum and am seeking some help to move my life forward.
I've suffered from depression on and off for about 8years and now suffer from terrible bouts of anxiety. Sometime it can be over with in about 10mins, but other times (like now) it really is severe and can go on for days/weeks at a time.

I'm thinking of trying a relaxation cd and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?
Also, has anyone tried a homeopath?

Thank you for reading

Hi I also have severe anxiety at the moment. It's truly awful isn't it?

I have the linden method downloaded on my iPad but you can buy the modules individually on iTunes and there are some really relaxing visualisation modules on there.

Otherwise I focus on my breathing... Breathe in for 4 slowly and out for 4 slowly. Repeat for as long as you can... Really calms you down.

Are you on meds?

FabMum1 · 25/09/2013 21:10

Hi Charlieboo
I take a daily anti-d, low dosage, but that's it
Am thinking I need to alter my diet and start exercising, but I feel I just don't have the time. My life is manic, never have a minute to myself

The anxiety is overwhelming, it takes over everything. I can't think rationally, I look on the downside of everything and I dread every single day. The thought of not knowing how I'll feel, I'm scared to do anything I case my thoughts take over, I feel useless and like I'm crazy.

Hi I have no recommendations. However if you can find the time to exercise I find that Helps a little with my a anxiety. Also gives me time to myself and I feel refreshed and uplifted afterwards.

FabMum1 · 26/09/2013 20:45

Tea woman, I really need to try to exercise. I just find running totally boring, can't run at all.

Was thinking that listening to a cd before bed might help me to relax a little?

Or maybe burning a lovely scented candle?

If you wanted to do some sort of exercise you could try yoga or Pilates? Way before anxiety I used to do Zumba would love I have the confidence to do that again was good fun.

But relaxing cd's and candles sounds good too. Aromatherapy is good for clearing the mind.

FabMum1 · 27/09/2013 21:01

I'm definitely buying some candles, if my anxiety doesn't stop me leaving the house tomorrow. It comes in big waves, so we'll see.

Just wish it would go away

I've been the same today fabmum1! Lots of really deep breaths help... Really slowly breath in for 4 seconds and then out for 4 seconds. You have my sympathy. Xx

Thanks silver mirror, am now going to track down your suggestions.

Charlieboo, do you find it really really frustrating too? I'd just like a day where I'm not anxious, at all. A day where I don't dread waking, because I never know how I'll feel. A day where my mind isn't consumed by over thinking everything n negative thoughts x

My anxiety is so bad at the moment I can't even sleep. It's the worst thing I've ever been through and I'm so scared. Back to the dr tomorrow as I need to get something to help me sleep. Am doing some gardening today to keep me busy. Mornings are my worst time. My negative thoughts drive me mad! I just want to be my old self again. Big hugs xxxx

Hi Fab sorry you are going through this at the moment. I have read the Paul McKenna book 'I can make you happy' which has a CD in the back to support the exercises he recommends - the tone of the book is very sensible and constructive and not at all patronising. I have just looked on Amazon and he has written several others which may help and I think they all come with a CD. Here is the link:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=paul+mckenna

FabMum1 · 29/09/2013 20:18

Thanks Monikar, will take a look now

CharlieBoo I know how you feel, just want to be the old me again. No negativity, anxiety and just enjoy life. Rather than worrying what'll happen next, always thinking 'what if....', being scared all the time. I'm so tired come bed time n I make myself go to bed and sleep, but I dread opening my eyes as I don't know how I'll be feeling.
My friend recommended seeing a homeopath, thinking about trying it
Big hugs to you

I have found most of the relaxation downloads useful (agree with Glen Harold recommendation). Specifically for anxiety I recommend Dr Claire Weekes cd - quite and to get hold of and quite old but simply superb. Wishing you well Thanks

Queenofknickers · 29/09/2013 20:50

Just looked on amazon and they have the Claire Weekes cd Thanks

teenyweenytadpole · 29/09/2013 20:53

Have you thought about seeing a hypnotherapist? I find the CD's good but can never be as effective as something tailored to you specifically. A good hypnotherapist should give you CD's to take home with you as well for further reinforcement.

jitterbug85 · 01/10/2013 01:38

There is a series of apps by a guy called Andrew Johnson which focus on different areas. I rely on the deep sleep so much but know there is one for stress, positivity etc. Check them out in the app store.
