Sertraline 50mg - anyone offer any words of experience?

Struggled with cyclothymia for years but after a month of feeling incredibly down and a week of feeling terrified and absolutely out of control I made an appointment for docs. Saw him this morning and he was, as usual lovely and supportive and has put me on 50mg sertraline a day with a review in 3 weeks.

I'm savvy enough to know I'd be incredibly lucky if I get through the first couple of weeks with no side effects so I'm now so worried that if I end up feeling worse than I already do - I'll end up suicidal.

I already suffer from a lack of appetite and insomnia - so if these get worse I'll be a right state.

DP is not really supportive of me taking meds, he's of the opinion that "you'll be ok, just don't think about things so much" Hmm (a bit like telling an alcoholic "you'll be ok, just don't drink") but I'm going to have to tell him I'm on them incase the side effects are bad.

Any experience with it? never been on ad's before.

I've been on Sertraline twice now, the first time I felt ok so came off them, but obviously I wasn't, so I'm back on them. Definitely me rather than the tablets.

I don't remember side effects from either time of starting them, but everyone's different. If I don't take the tablets with enough water I get a bit of heartburn, if I forget to take a tablet I get a bit dizzy. Again, both down to me rather than the tablets.

I've come to terms with the fact I'll be on them for the foreseeable future, but they make me calmer and more able to approach things rationally, so I'm OK with that.

Good luck, hope they work out for you.

I have been on it, the side effects were annoying but not life interfering.

I yawned a lot, felt very twitchy and felt hotter than normal.

I take it I had no side effects.
