autism diagnosis as an adult - why would you want this?

I don't know if this is in the right place but... I think I may be on the spectrum for autism. Why would it be a good idea to know for sure?

self acceptance, understanding any troubles you had as a child or teenager.

being able to explain to others who have found or do find you difficult.

explaining to employers - if there are certain things you find really hard (say, being in crowds) you may possibly be able to get 'reasonable adjustments' to your job.

could possibly open up new areas of support, eg adult autism groups, if available.

nothing at all to say you need to chase it up though - if you are happy without then no need to bother :)

I am probably on the spectrum, chasing up a proper assessment but local CMHT is crap :(

Thank you. Just knowing it's a possibility already explains a lot and helps me be kinder to myself. I also think i make greater attempts to cover it up which i'm not sure is helpful in itself but eases relationships. Hope you get your assessment soon.
