What ADs are you on? I've only been on mine very short term but nothing negative in terms of weight gain as yet. Mind you, I'm only eating about a quarter of what I was before I became ill, so it's hard to tell...

Hope you're awap.

Some cause weight gain. mirtazapine & Olanzapine are notorious for weight gain. Some SSRI's can cause weight loss as they reduce your appetite. What AD are you on?

I am on sertraline and had no issues for the first six months but I have noticed that I am unable to lose weight in the way I would before. I've read it can cause slow creep weight gain. I am a year postpartum and still have a stone to lose whereas last time I just lost it all by nine months post partum and I'm not eating anything differently (if anything eating less/better and initially weight loss was following same path) and am more active. I don't know it's the sertraline but I suspect it is.

I put on weight on a SSRI type, mainly because it made me crave carbs, particularly in the middle of the night. I would wake and eat biscuits, hence the chub going on (I was thin before). I did manage to lose it, but it wasn't easy. Some just came off naturally and the rest took a bit of effort. I never quite got back to my previous level of thin-ness and then I had babies....Which added some more pounds.

I've taken Sertraline for 20 years & have never put on weight from it. I take the lowest dose of Olanzapine which on higher doses can cause weight gain but it hasn't affected me. My son is 21 & I weigh the same as I did before I was pregnant with him. I have had 2 more children & my weight has always gone back the same.

Tabbycat, do you mind me asking what dose of sertraline you're on? Have you ever reduced it or come off?

tabbycat15 · 10/07/2013 10:29

I am on 75 mg but have been on 100-150mg too. I have been off the meds for a year & no change with my weight whilst off them. I have major depression so will be on them long term.

Thanks tabby. I'm on 50, have weaned down from 100. I found it easy to wean down to 50 but can't seem to get down any further. Think I'll be on them for a while, even though I don't feel depressed or anxious.
