Anyone with experience of Fluoxetine?

I have been taking these for 4 weeks now but am still not feeling much happier. I feel better than I did but not 100%. Does anyone know how long they usually take to work? I am on 20mg per day for mild depression.

Thanks!

Dh is taking Fluoxetine and they do take a long time to start working, this is the 2nd time dh has been on them, dh's doctor said you have to take them for a least 3 months before you know if they are helping or not. I think they took at least 6 weeks to start working on dh. I hope you find they help soon.

Thanks Marne! A few more weeks to go before I know then!

I really hope they do work!

Thanks again!

I take Fluoxetine for depression and they can take up to 3 months to kick in, but have been told the effects can be felt in as little as 10-14 days.

Have you been back to your doctor and explained how you are feeling? You may need a higher dose.

I have taken fluoxetine in the past - the effect is not dramatic though. From what I remember, you just gradually find you are better able to cope than you were before. If you are expecting to feel 100%, I think perhaps that's unrealistic. But do go back to your doctor if you feel they aren't working at all - with these types of ADs it can be a trial and error process to find the one that works best for you - well, that's what my GP said to me anyway!

Good luck :-)

My DP's on them. I didn't really notice how long it took for them to start 'working', althouh I know gp said they would take a few months. He's been on them now for about 6mths and I really do know if he's forgotten to take them.

Oh really? I only have experience of Citalopram which I was on for PND a couple of years ago now, but I can't remember how long they took to work. I guess they normally take a good few months! I do feel better than I did and its only been about 4 weeks so I guess it can only get better!

I normally take them about 5.30 in the evening and when I come out of work at 5.00 I know I am ready for one! Weird or what!?

I was on Fluoxetine for 6 monthsand I felt better in myself after about 6 weeks and then gradually got better and better.

I was ready to stop after 4 months but the doc insisted I go for at least 6 months

Thanks for your message!

Yeah I think my doc said I would be on them for about 6 months! Did you have any trouble coming off them?
