How to convince consultant cold turkey is not the way to come off Sertraline

DD1 (21) has been on Sert a while now - up to 250mg. A few MH episodes, and a diagnosis that doesn't include depression has been made, so consultant - who by all accounts NObody argues with - has withdrawn the Sert over a 3 week period. DD1 is suffering horrendous withdrawal symptoms but the consultant will not listen or amend his original instruction of coming off it that quickly.

DD1 has just spoken to a pharmacist who nearly had a heart attack when she told her what was going on.

So - how DO we get this arrogant man to listen to us?

Or, who do we put in a complaint to?

Can you see a different Doctor?
Or get the pharmacist to contact the Doc and get him to amend the prescription - after all pharmacists are there to check the Dr has got it right.
I was only comming off 50mg, but they got me to drop to every other day for a bit before stopping, so over a similar time frame, but from a much lower dose. I'd get another opinion.
Hope your daughter is doing better soon.

So sorry for her, she must feel awful. What has she been diagnosed with?

I came off 250mg of sertraline over a fortnight. It was horrific. I begged for help but no one would override the consultant so I was stuck.

I'm okay now. I try to think of it in a positive light - at least it was over quickly. If she is going on to other medications like I was, he could be trying to get her onto them as quickly as possible.

I don't suppose this has helped but I thought I'd post anyway. All the best to her.

Thanks for the input. Caja - your consultant sounds like the same one! eventually she spoke to someone at the community MH place and they've faxed a request to her GP for some more sert. :)
