Any experiences of MH care in either N Bham or N Devon?

DD1 is coming out of a psych unit in the next couple of weeks. Our options are for her to live either in Birmingham (with me) or her dad in North Devon. We were wondering whether she would get better care in one area or the other? She has Emotionally Unstable Personality disorder with underlying and ongoing mental health issues.

Any experiences much appreciated x

It might not be hugely helpful but I found the NHS care I recieved in Devon (Plymouth) better than in Birmingham, but the private therapy available in Birmingham much much better.

This was treatment for PTSD and eating disorders, so not sure if it is applicable in this situation, I just didn't want to read and run.

Where would she be happiest? I got better being near people who knew me and could support me.

No experience of either, but having had a look st both websites it appears that Devon has a specialist PD service and Birmingham doesn't. The service in Devon is in Exeter though, so don't know how practical it would be, but it does seem to be aimed at the whole county. However, there are other things to consider, such as who she would be more likely to be happy living with, who can offer more support, if she has friends in either area, if you would be relying on the NHS, or if you'd look at private services too, if she's more of a city or country girl, where there are more activities to interest her, etc etc. Based purely on the NHS sites I would go for Devon, because they have a specialist service, but it is far more complex than that. Does she have a preference?

No, and really we're not giving her much say in it tbh. But she's since taken another overdose, so she's back in the psych unit after a couple of days in hospital for a while longer ...
