Hi all

I am on mirtazapine, 30mg, mainly for sleep and anxiety, but it has definitely lifed my mood too. Am hoping to get pregnant soon, and was wondering if anyone else had been pregnant while taking it? This is my first time taking any kind of medication, and I have only been on this dose for a month, the 15mg didn't really work.

I have spoken to my doctor who advises to stop immediately and then if I struggle go back on a lower dose, but stay off as much as I can. I have looked on the internet, and as its a relatively new drug there is not much evidence for it. I have found people who do take it while pregnant but it doesn't really mention the outcome.

Obviously if I come off the medication, the problem is still going to be there. I am starting counselling this weekend so hoping that this could maybe counteract my lack of medication in some way?

Thanks x

Hi, I was on venlaflaxine and not mirtazapine, but I was told by the dr that if there was clinical need to stay on it then my needs would outweigh the babies and people do stay on medication but as you say with some drugs research is not there. There were other, more tested and therefore safer drugs offered to me instead, so I came off venlaflaxine when I found out I was pregnant -having reduced it to the lowest dose before conceiving.
Good luck.
