Increasing Citalopram to 20mg - possible side effects like first time round? Also breastfeeding a 16month old.

I looked through the previous threads before someone says I shouldn't have bothered but would be nice to talk to someone in the present.

I have been on 10mg Citalopram for the last 2 months. A week ago I started noticing reoccurring obsessive, angry thoughts and very quick irritable reactions to tiny incidents. Luckily my monthly GP visit was approaching so saw my her yesterday and we agreed on upping the dose to 20mg.

Should I jump straight to 20mg or start off with 15mg? I don't particularly want to go through the same side effects as before. they weren't too bad in the grand scheme of things but let's just say I didn't enjoy the first 10 days.

Also does anyone know after what time the ADs reach the breastmilk or when is the peak time of the medicine being at its highest in the blood/breastmilk? My DD feeds 3 times a day (morning, afternoon and evening) and hasn't been affected by the 10mg but I would like to er on the side of caution. TIA

I can't answer re breast feeding impacts but I started on 10mg Citalopram and went to (and am still on 20mg) for anxiety.

I had no noticeable side effects and found, whether 'real' or not that 20mg made me 'feel' more normal and able to cope better.

I still have good days and bad days believe that 20mg is the right dose, not to low not too high.

Good luck Grin

Thanks Loz! I chickened out a bit and took 15mg today. Well, roughly, was in a rush and couldnt find a proper knife. I need to buy a pill cutter later on. I just remember feeling so shit before I didn't want to jump 10mg. Will take a 20 after a week.
