Anyone with bipolar 2 who gets more hypomania than depression?

Been diagnosed with bapd, but psychiatrist hasn't said if 1/2/rapid cycling/mixed/nos etc! My lows are crushing where I have no energy even to wash and think about suicide - the usual. But they don't last very long - about 2 weeks at the most. I seem to have longer hypomanic periods and more of them too. This sometimes falls under bipolar 1, but I'm not psychotic and my mania is mildish. What do other bipolar 2 people experience? (I suspect I'm 2 not 1)

My partner has bipolar and used to experience crushing depressions, hypomania and a couple of episodes of being psychotic. But now thanks to Lithium is fairly stable. it might be helpful to post on a forum especially for bipolar people and their loved ones. I used to post a lot on windsofchange an American site that was very supportive and informative.

I'm bipolar 1 and have more highs than lows. The lows I do get are really, really bad but hypomania and mania cause me more problems. My diagnosis has changed over the years and initially depression was the main problem but it isn't anymore. Perhaps you ought to have a chat with your psychiatrist and get your medication reviewed.

I'm not on any medication yet. About to start lithium after the checks. Just wondered if it were at all possible for bipolar 2s to have more hypomanias than downs. Not that I mind, but the depressions are awful, though short-lived.

The thing with bipolar is it's so variable. Not only does it vary from person to person but it can also vary from episode to episode (but for some people it can be predictable too).

In most people with bipolar 2 depression is the most problematic but not always. It sounds as if you're trying to ask if it is in fact bipolar 1 because of the highs rather than bipolar 2. Obviously no-one here can diagnose you it the difference between hypomania and mania (the difference between bipolar 1 & 2) is your functioning ability. If you can function okay then it's not mania. If your ability to function normally ceases then it's possibly mania. Obviously you don't experience psychosis with bipolar 2 but you can be bipolar 1 without experience psychosis.

You really need to discuss it with your doctor but IMO with bipolar anythings possible

Thank you fedupandtired, I will discuss it with my psychiatrist. Maybe people with bipolar try to overanalyse their moods, I think I should just get on with being in whatever mood I'm in!
