If you knew someone that was about to have a breakdown what would you do?

Someone we know has had depression for years

he has had a breakdown before

on meds now

but I think is about to have another one

he is at work but not really functioning

he has no family apart from aged mum who is unwell atm and lives alone about 300 miles away

she usually would come to stay with him but cos she is unwell isn't able to, or he would go to stay with her but she has told him she is unwell -- she is a lovely lady though so don't blame her please

he doesn't really have any friends either he thinks his job is very important to him

Anyway do you think it would help to take him out for a meal - he likes restaurants

what else could be done?

he is very stubborn and independant and doesn't like people fussing iyswim

.

I'd go with the meal idea, just subtly let him know that you care, that you enjoy his company etc. Sometimes people just knowing they're liked can bring them back from the edge. Ask his opinion on things too, my friend when depressed used to be thrilled if I asked her advice on something and actually used it too.
