Hi there,

First, to put things into context: 1/ I am a christian and do believe in the paranormal, but don't give it much attention at all..... 2/ I am also a pure scientist - a biochemist, who takes a lot of convincing.

HOWEVER! Tonight, as clear as anything, I saw a ball of white light, about as big as a small melon, about two and a half feet off the ground. When I saw it, I looked at it for about 3-4 seconds, and then I looked away a bit puzzled to see whether it could have been a reflection on the kitchen door (which leads out to the boot room).

I have tried for about ten minutes, sitting where I was, to create the same thing using lights, moving doors to see if it changed the light... but I just can't get it to happen again.

Interested to get some ideas. Not freaked out by ghosts etc, though it is a classic night for it to have happened as the wind keeps banging the doors (bit spooky!). I feel completely at peace, as it was non-threatening. Equally happy to believe that this was a scientific phenomenon.

That's really amazing, and I'd be interested to hear of possible explanations.

I think it might be ball lightning - have you googled? It would prob. be down to atmospheric conditions.

Yes, this lightening thing is one explanation, but these tend to happen outside? This was in like a 'lean to' made of brick and glass on the back of our house. It really is quite peculiar. Also, it's such a windy night out there.... no sign of any lightening... I'm totally baffled.

Why are you posting this in Mental Health?

SoupDragon · 05/01/2012 07:55

Perhaps, and this is just a wild guess, it is in this topic by mistake?

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2012 08:06

Had you been looking at something bright beforehand and the image was still in your brain/eyes?

Either that or maybe an orb? I never used to believe in them until I saw a friends video she filmed in her house of her daughters and there were orbs following the kids about.

pleasedtomeetyou - ball lightening comes inside - I know it sounds odd but as I say, have a google. And yes I do think this topic is in mental health by mistake, bet if you'd posted in Chat loads of people would have joined in, we all love an unexplained ball of light Wink

pleasedtomeetyou · 06/01/2012 14:43

Madmouse.... yes, I can see why you would ask this question. I'm a relatively newby, and I've found that this is one of the nicest places to post. Besides the fact that people could think Im a bit odd seeing balls of white light! And, I thought a 'Am I unreasonable to be seeing balls of white light' would have been very funny! You get slaughtered in there....

That's nice, but it gives just a little bit the impression that people with mental health problems see things that may or may not be there - which isn't the case. Try _chat next time. Much friendlier than AIBU.

Our family saw this on the top of the hill at the back of the house last night and wondered what it was.
I took a photo (but cannot upload it here). It moved to the right along the hill then vanished after about five to ten minutes.

Nobody was up on the hill, especially on the steep bit.

It was too large and bright to be a torch, moved, so was not a planet but fixed like a car headlight. Too steep for a car and it was not the shepherd.
