I have been googling and it's so hard to know who's best - and I realise that it's also a lot about how one gets on with a particular therapist. Thank you

Have you tried BACP?

Go through your NHS GP if you have one?

Most counsellors, even those you are referred to by and who work for the PCT will treat the first session as a 'try out' to see if you can work with each other. If you don't feel they're the one, there should be an option to work with another if that's appropriate.

Sorry, just realised I hadn't thanked you for your ideas. As it happens, I decided not to pursue CBT right now - think I've been on a bit of a quest for some kind of instant solution to how I'm feeling, and over the last couple of weeks I've realised that whatever approach I take, nothing is going to happen overnight. Will definitely follow up both your suggestions in the future though, if the time seems right.
