On 40 mg of Citalopram but still feel dreadful. Does citalopram stop working after a while..?

Well, went from 30 to 40 last week to be more accurate so maybe being impatient. But still, to feel so low when I have been on ADs for 2 years..?

Have also been going down with everthing and anything this winter, I must have a cold/tummybug/sinusitis every couple of weeks on average at the mo.

Just feel crap and like crying but have children and PT job so have to keep up the bright face.

Anyone else find citalopram stops working?

You've only just gone up a dose. You need to give it more time - at least 3-4 weeks before you notice a difference.
