Hi. I have a family member who is dealing with someone on their own, who appears to be in a severe depressive state.

They have lost a dramatic amount of wieght, emotionally on edge, have difficulty coping with everyday life and is now talking of suicide.

No one we know has any experience of this and I am at a loss at how to help. This person is refusing to seek medical help themselves and will not contemplate approaching a doctor.

Does anyone know if there are any support groups to help my relative cope. Is there anyway of getting help to this person before something terrible happens. Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Unfortunatley I am not in the same country as my relative, so can't give any direct help.

I thought I'd replied earlier, suggesting you had a look at the organisations mentioned on the mental health web guide, but have probably forgotten to click "send"...
It's a difficult situation, particularly if resident abroad, so I do hope you find some help.

It's difficult without knowing about the country and the systems there, but sounds like they may require hospitalisation.

Take them to A&E, a member of the Crisis Team will be called out to assess them and they will then be given the help and support they need.
