My 21 yr old daughter has been admitted to psychiatric care in the community today because she had some sort of funny turn this morning. She says that she was aware of people looking at her she thought one lady was going to hit her. she says her head was divided into two, one telling her to jump under the bus and the other saying no dont do it. She say she looked at her arm and her arm wasnt there. Whats going o any ideas. she has been stressed lately

OMG, no idea, sorry, but how awful for her and for you. I hope so much they can sort her out, it sounds very scary.

my friend had severe depression many years ago and one of the things she said was that she was looking in the mirror and she couldnt see herself. I cannot remember what she called it but it frightened her very much. I hope she gets all the help she can xx and you obviously xx

My friend had a head infection from a horse bite, and for about 6 hours her behavior was extremely bizarre, the ambulance bloke asked her to touch her arm, and she didn't but insisted she was doing it.

This probably doesn't comfort you at all, have you managed to speak to her community psychiatric nurse? They might not tell you anything, but you could arrange to be there when he/she visits your daughter.

Why has she been stressed? Does her stress level seem reasonable to you, compared to the things she has to deal with, or is it excessive?

I really feel for you, it is frightening when this happens to a family member. You have my empathy.

She was very scared. Trouble is she has dyspraxia and I think the mental health issues related to that dont help. She always has things way out of proportion and leaves you thinking no that didnt happen that way, like she has her own version of reality. Although I sympathise im worried that it will be my fault again.. it always is at our house.

Had my first breakdown when I was her age feeling a bit guilty because psyc has obviously told her that this sort of thing runs in families. Feel such a failure because all my kids seem to have mental health issues and my son is autistic.. think ive bombed a mirror factory

It's got a psychotic flavour to it. Does she take any street drugs?

Community Mental Health is a law unto iteslf and most nothing about it until they are in it despite governmental initiatives to improve and publicise rights of the patient and of the family.

Hospital can be ok for keeping people relatively safe from self harm but in all other respects they are bloody awful and do no good whatsoever. You need to make sure you see her care plan and that if you are her main carer even from a distance, that YOU ARE ON IT! You also have a right to have your needs as carer assessed and reviewed regularly.

CAT me anytime as I will be surprised if you don't find it all a minefield.

I worked in Mental Health and also saw a family member through hospitalisation sue to mental ill health.
