I'm new here and suspected of having a depressive personality disorder

Hello,

I'm new to this section and a bit nervous but told you are all lovely.

I am suspected of having a depressive personality disorder by the GP I went to to get tested for thyroid function.

I don't much like hearing any one of those words applied to me.

There is nothing wrong with my personality. I don't have a disorder. I might be a bit depressed but that's about all I reckon I could cope with.

Any advice?

I think she might be alright. I think she'll be helpful.

I know I'm extremely paranoid now, but she did glance at the computer screen a few times when she suggested it. I wondered even then if something had been put in my records from somewhere else.

I just wasn't expecting 'depression' to come up, even though I do feel sluggish and miserable at times.

when you say freezing - presume you mean you are feeling the cold a lot? That certainly can be a sign of thyroid problems.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 30/12/2010 00:29

Yes, I feel the cold lots. I plan in detail my warmth and when working and having to stay away from home a lot I was a right pita in nearly every hotel I visit demanding extra portable heaters or having to change rooms loads until I can find one that is warm enough.

It sounds contrary but my god I'm like an obsessed driven woman. I can't think, talk, sleep, work or do anything except thing about how cold I am.

have you looked up symptoms of underactive thyroid? Any others seem familiar?

Have you been checked for anaemia too?

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 30/12/2010 00:34

Yes, but it seems like there are so many symptoms they could apply to anyone and things like 'difficult to lose weight' are hard to divorce from lifestyle, as well as weak muscles etc. (which I have in my arms)

Yes, the blood test thing is checking for Ferritin (is that iron?)

Well I've read enough now to be certain I don't have a personality disorder, although I'm not ruling out a level of depression.

Had my blood test a couple of days ago so hopefully next week I will find out if anything shows up medically.
