self harming......

I have had a pretty tough life and self harmed as a child and on to adulthood before i had my children, but not since my children. I have had counselling and have been on anti-depressants but even so, whenever I am really down I still have thoughts of this as it makes me feel better but have resisted temptation because of my family....but would love to hear from anyone else that has gone through this or is going through this........

I used to scrape at my wrists in high school and college. I still have urges to do so from time to time but have managed to resist it thus far. It is difficult sometimes isn't it?

mummyoffour · 20/08/2005 01:17

yes it is very difficult at times jabberwocky....thanks for your post

felt like this also, but have not so far carried out my feelings

HellKat · 20/08/2005 04:48

It's always hard to break the cycle, self-harming releases the built up up pain, the feeling (albeit brief) of calm, then the vast guilt at what you've done. I used to self-harm, have numerous, very deep scars on my arms and legs. I was on Anti-d's but have'nt taken them for two years nor harmed for two years either.
You'll be surprised at how many people either have done or still do self-harm.
Are you having a rough time atm?
x

Mof4, is there anything that you have found that you can do to take your mind off of it? I started belly dancing several years ago and it is very calming to me.

Family curcumstances have changed and things have been a bit all over the place at the mo I was thinking of taking up xstitch again as I found this pretty relaxing.

Anything that helps you to focus on something else is great. And, you'll get something lovely out of it at the end.

mummyoffour · 21/08/2005 00:04
