Welcome old and new fasters, those on and off the wagon, those losing, gaining or maintaining for a gentle supportive countdown to May thread.

Never started a thread before copying in people so let's hope this works - some previous usernames no longer existed so had to do a cull..

Morning IF-ers, I know Friday is tomorrow but I'm feeling like it's going to be a good Thursday - I had a nice long sleep and the sun is doing its best to break through the clouds - so spreading the optimism here and wishing everyone good sticking power and a bit of joy and pride thrown in where possible xx

desikated · 18/04/2024 09:04

Oof I'm been away from this all but well done everyone for achievements and little gains

@HarpQuartet thanks for the positive Thursday vibes! I need them. Had to break the fast at about 3am due to severe endo pain and needing to take painkillers with some food in my stomach - BOO. So feeling like the day is kind of ruined now. Still in pain now so can't really fast now.

HarpQuartet · 18/04/2024 10:22

@desikated so sorry to hear that!! Self first, health first, every time. You do what you need to do today. You can choose what to nourish yourself with xx

It's absolutely not ruined, by the way. You're doing something else temporarily, while you need to. That's all.

desikated · 18/04/2024 12:02

Ahh thank you @HarpQuartet hard not to feel let down by my body! And then I stupidly weighed myself this morning (such an act of self sabotage!)

Anyway, I've called in sick to work and planning on getting into bed soon with some poirot 😎

Hello all... I am back on it... wee mental health crisis triggered by so much loss in last 12 months, just overwhelmed... And once I start spiralling down, everything else seems to do so too, so munchies at 1 am which is the WORST for me...

Somehow, thankfully, my mental health is rebalancing and I'm being gentle with myself as I recover. Im getting back into the healthy fasting/eating structure which I and my body love: it feels like a strong stepping stone as I move forward and such a wonderful foundation for my future life as a healthy vibrant person... I can hold that image in my mind again, which is a big relief.

I'll weigh in tomorrow - knowing it's a big increase but hoping it might drop off fast again: just 8 days of chaotic eating... let's see what happens.

Thank you all for being on this journey together - and lovely to welcome newbies too!

HarpQuartet · 19/04/2024 06:36

Happy Friday everyone! Well, after my optimism yesterday I've been brought back down to earth a bit with a small weight increase, boo!

78.0kg (which I think is +0.2kg, so really marginal)

This happened around 82kg, I just bumped around there for weeks so I know not to lose heart. I've got good nutritious food planned for today. Let's see what the next week brings.

ItRainsItPours · 19/04/2024 07:15

I’ve lost 1lb this week plus re lost 1lb of Easter excess so kind of 2lb which I’m happy with.

Clearingaspace · 19/04/2024 07:23

@loveyouradvice so glad to see you back on the thread - I was missing your posts! I think sometimes emotions hit us out of the blue and in the scheme of all that it sounds like you have been through recently a 1 week blip is no time at all. Keep holding on to the fact that actually fasting and eating well feels so much better for you!

@desikated how are you doing now?

@HarpQuartet our bodies behave weirdly with weight loss don’t they - definitely not consistently down - great that you are focused on a healthy day planned out and the week ahead.

I had a good week really, lost about 3 of my regain lbs - still about 5 or 6 to go though. I have been trying to get to bed before midnight, eating fairly well but not super low cal and fasting in the evenings. Annoyingly this morning is the first day I haven’t had a loss on the scale for a few days, in fact it was up a tiny bit. Last night I was mooching on my phone in bed after midnight so that might be the reason! I also got my period on time yesterday (yay!) but I guess that could cause some fluctuations

sw 204 lbs
cw 182.8 lbs

Clearingaspace · 19/04/2024 07:26

Well done @ItRainsItPours !

loveyouradvice · 19/04/2024 11:43

@HarpQuartet how frustrating ... totally get it, it is an infinitesimal gain (less than half a glass of water!!) BUT takes you out of that magical 79s which was your goal - I'm looking forward to celebrating with you being back there next week.

@Clearingaspace thanks for the welcome back and congrats on getting those 3lbs off. Really great - and the rest will follow. I'll be cheering you on as I do the same dance: getting off those pounds I thought I'd already lost!!

@ItRainsItPours yes, that is 2lbs - good to know the Easter choc is vanishing!!

And me? As expected, it bounced up... but it could have been worse as I was at 12.2 yesterday...and what's more significant is what I weigh next Friday when I've had eight days back on track...

Today: 11.13 (up from 11.8 which i'd been maintaining and feels so alluring)
TW: 11.2

HarpQuartet · 19/04/2024 17:20

The magical 79s, yes @loveyouradvice eyes on the prize! Let's see what next Fri holds for us. I like your attitude: that will be eight days back on track 💪🏻

desikated · 19/04/2024 19:37

Well done @loveyouradvice - the important / amazing thing is that you have picked it all back up and carried on - well bloody done!

I always try and think about - 'doing my future self a favour'. So weird example, I always try to clean my work coffee mug before I go home despite it being up and down two flights of stairs and me being lazy. In my head I think - you're doing 'tomorrow morning Desikated a favour'. It often - not always - works. I try to apply this to fasting / good eating too - what does future me want me to do right now?

Agh @Clearingaspace periods are utter weight gain doom (temporary). honestly I feel like my body literally balloons overnight. Well done on the continued loss! excellent work. What times do you fast to and from?

Yay @ItRainsItPours !!! that's great work - steady steady wins the race

@HarpQuartet yes 200g - so very little so I'd just ignore that tbh! and sometimes I find a week of staying the same / small weight gains, then leads to a bigger weight loss the following weeks because ?bodies? ?hormones? who the fuck knows..

As for me, I did re-weigh this morning

So I was at 66.1 (two weeks ago)
yesterday I was 66.8
today I was 66.5
GW is somewhere around 62/63 (10 stone).

In that time had 10 days of basically eating whatever and drinking alcohol everyday, with a bit of fasting chucked in.

I'm pre period, and bloated and been taking a lot of pain relief and work is stressful. So in context, it's 'ok'. Next week is period - so my next marker wil be two weeks from today where I hope to be in the 65s somewhere....

Right now though, I'm enjoying a glass of wine ;)

OP posts:
Clearingaspace · 19/04/2024 20:31

Ha ha I am also having a glass of wine too @desikated . I have been fasting 2:00 pm 8 am ish every day so approx 18 hours. I have had my first dinner in what feels like ages tonight - steak, chips and peas - not exactly the most original meal but I really loved it. I will weigh in tomorrow out of curiosity but I will try and focus on being lighter on Friday and not freak out by being up again

jane46b · 19/04/2024 22:46

Hey all...so after a couple of weeks of not sticking to plan/eating far too much I got back on it!
I've done 3x 23 hour fasts back to back. First time I've ever done fasts so long and they weren't bad at all (I was working each day, I'm a nurse in a very busy ward so was well distracted)

I'd love to post my weigh in however....it depends which weigh in I use, which depends where my scales are in the bathroom! I bought new scales yesterday and the reading different wherever they're placed 😂
What I will say though is that all weigh ins were less than my last one (some by 1/2lb, some by 4lbs) so I'm assuming I've lost something, I just don't know what 😂
I'll try and get to the gym as that's the scales I was using before.

Well done to all with their progress (and willpower not to fall off the wagon like I did!)

Clearingaspace · 20/04/2024 07:18

Oh that’s fantastic @jane46b sounds like a really good week! I would say put the heaviest weight down as sw so you have an idea even if not 100% accurate. My scale set up is the same as I can’t leave the scale lying down in a set position and it can fluctuate by a 1lb or2

I weighed reluctantly this morning, but with clothes on so I don’t exactly know 😉 I had always planned to eat 3 meals yesterday but I didn’t plan the large glass of wine, late night toast, going to bed at 1, mini roll … I feel like 3lbs up (probs 2 w/o clothes) could be worse. Hopefully if back on track straight away I can undo it by Monday 🤞

hsve a lovely weekend all

HarpQuartet · 20/04/2024 07:57

Oh my lord, I had a day of chaotic eating yesterday. Writing it here to make it 'real'. Back to looking after myself today. It really doesn't do me any favours when I lose the plot. I don't enjoy it enough at the time, or afterwards, to make it worth my while.

loveyouradvice · 21/04/2024 12:35

My thoughts exactly @HarpQuartet ... and yet I repeatedly do it!! So strange how the human brain works.

I've come on here to celebrate us all - We are truly doing something amazing! Working to create healthy bodies - sticking to it, despite the ups and downs with determination and tenacity. Determined to flout the weight gain/dieting cycle - determined to create healthy bodies for life

Together we can truly do it.

Love to you all and hoping you have an enjoyable and healthy eating day today

HarpQuartet · 21/04/2024 13:20

Made myself a sensible snack for this morning, jacket potato on the way, much better than yesterday's nonsense. Joining you in the celebration @loveyouradvice

@loveyouradvice your words here about celebration are BRILLIANT. You are so so so right.

And @HarpQuartet you have picked yourself back up and carried on - that's the hardest thing and you did it.

I also do the feasting / overeating thing. It's total 'comfort' for me - it's like the act of chewing and swallowing (sometimes not even chewing that much) somehow feels like it will sooth whatever is happening in my mind. It never does - just adds another layer of 'agh'.

OP posts:
Clearingaspace · 22/04/2024 13:26

ah yes I am 100% a comfort/emotional eater too @desikated

@HarpQuartet chaotic eating sums it up perfectly for me too as rather than say a binge, it is more grazing on the wrong stuff (Usually as a treat!) which kicks off cravings. Well done on getting back on track.

I love your message @loveyouradvice and actually I feel a bit of a failure re weight but no I shouldn’t, it is tenacity to keep trying. Most of us on this thread will need to keep actively in weight loss mode in order to keep/get to a healthy weight.

adding to the positive stuff i am 1lb down compared to Friday weigh in. I got back to my 2 meal plan/ evening fasting on Saturday and my Friday gain which was quite significant dropped overnight 😮really emphasised to me that it is so important to get on track as soon as possible. This loss put me in a quandary on Sunday as I was planning to do a roast which I knew the teen kids would want for dinner but I didn’t want to go off plan again. so I told the kids that I am having trying to have two meals a day as it can be helpful for overweight adults, but not growing teens, and that I find I am more hungry earlier in the day so could we have the roast as a late lunch and they all agreed! We even played a board game after and argued competitively the whole time we were playing!

HarpQuartet · 22/04/2024 17:26

@Clearingaspace I'm so jealous, wish mine would play board games. Instead we watch Race Across the World and talk and argue all the way through that instead 😁

Clearingaspace · 25/04/2024 17:24

Ooh never seen that @HarpQuartet will have to see if the dteens want to give it a try!

weigh in tomorrow! So far I have lost a lb. Just did a les mills bootcamp and loved it 😮 but might make me hold onto water weight - hope I keep the lb off though!

desikated · 25/04/2024 19:55

Well @Clearingaspace it's so hard to keep the persistence. but we are doing a good thing for our bodies and minds. And the days of chaos eating/comfort eating are kind of fine? As in if you ate anything and everything most days and then for occasional days you did fasting / maintenance calories or whatever - that wouldn't make you lose weight or be particularly healthy. So, this is the reverse lol. An occasional 'off' day is not going to make the difference.

I'm full on doom period so not weighing in as it'll be horrible. I'm anaemic so esp round periods, fasting is really hard (tbh i dont think it's healthy at this point in the month for me) so trying to lean into healthy choices rather than weight loss choices.

good luck to everyone!

HarpQuartet · 26/04/2024 06:39

Morning all, 77.5kg, which is good. My goal was to be firmly under 78kg at the end of April, and I think with a few sensible days to go, that's exactly what's going to happen. I've got nice food planned for today and a busy day at work, which I find very helpful.

Good luck everyone!

HarpQuartet · 26/04/2024 06:47

(I mentioned the magical 79s up-thread but I meant the magical 77s! When I'm firmly 77kg that puts me 5kg above my first big goal.)
