4-week fasting countdown to October

Peae · 06/09/2023 09:20

Starting on Friday 8th September, I'm going to do a four-week accountability thread. Four weeks will get us to Friday 6 October. After a plodding September, I would be very grateful for company along the way.

Requirements
Every Friday, check-in with:
A measurement from the scales or tape measure.
Your fasting schedule e.g. 16:8 or 5:2 or OMAD.
Progress to date during the challenge, e.g. 1.5lb lost or number of plant-based foods eaten etc.

In between Fridays we can offer support and companionship. (Previous thread is at www.mumsnet.com/talk/fasting_diet/4860120-5-week-fasting-countdown-to-september?page=1).

violetcuriosity · 29/09/2023 07:19

Just weighed again after a wee 🤣 12st 0.8lbs! Excellllllent x

HarpQuartet · 29/09/2023 07:23

Hehe, the power of a good wee

LucyWardrobe · 29/09/2023 07:38

Week 3 weigh in

Well I've have a right belter. Went from 72.5kg last week to 73.5kg this morning. That's a gain of 1kg 🙈

I've definitely been over eating this week as my period started yesterday and not sticking to fast times so there lies the problem. Off to a bakery this morning but I'll save my baked goods for lunch. Hopefully I'll be a bit more moderate this week!

overall I'm still really glad I've been doing this even though the weight loss hasn't been as rapid.

theunbelievabletruth · 30/09/2023 10:15

Can I join too ? Just seen this thread.
Started 16:8 for health above everything. A chronic condition that required prophylactic antibiotics for years ( until the protocol changed 2 years ago) along with huge steroid doses... had left me at 95.8 kg . I'm post menopausal so that hadn't helped either.

All of the above were not 'my' fault.. but the daily wine consumption and sedentary lifestyle/ - work habits of sitting for 9 hrs a day have just added to a bad situation. So decided to take myself in hand. Did lots of research and settled on 16:8 with recipes taken from Michael Moseley fast 800 book. I joined the health club. Started swimming and after two weeks also decided my 'wine money' was better spent on a PT. (Who is wonderful and experienced/realistic with fat unfit over fifties...

I LOVE 16:8 . It suits me . I don't struggle with hunger now. Took about 3 days of clean fasting. I stick to the rules like glue as I would like to live long enough to see grandchildren and be healthy enough to enjoy them...
I'm 5'6"

Week 1
95.8

Week 2
95.4

Week 3
91.7

MegBusset · 30/09/2023 11:54

Welcome @theunbelievabletruth ! And well done on your fantastic progress so far.

i too am loving IF (14:10 or 15:9 for me). It just seems so easy. The only challenge has been the mental one of losing my evening chocolate bar, but the weight loss is worth it.

Fouramclub · 30/09/2023 19:14

@theunbelievabletruth welcome and what a brilliant post!

FINAL WEEK CHECK-INS

OP posts:
MegBusset · 06/10/2023 07:07

Starting weight (1 August): 10st 3lb
Current weight: 9st 3lb
Lost this week: 1.8lb
Goal weight: 9st 3lb

Goal weight unlocked 🥳

Might aim for another 3lb off if there’s an October thread. Then it’ll be maintenance- which I’ve always found much harder than losing.

That's absolutely amazing! Well done!!! You should be so proud of yourself 💖

violetcuriosity · 06/10/2023 07:20

Starting weight- 13st 1lbs
Current weight- 11st 13.6lbs
Target weight (for now) 11st

Feeling really proud this morning as I've now smashed through two stone barriers, still very overweight but being back in the '11s' is a real boost ❤️

Can we do another one please?

HarpQuartet · 06/10/2023 07:42

Thank you @Peae and congratulations @MegBusset and @violetcuriosity you're doing brilliantly!

I, on the other hand, lost a total of 0.5kg over the month (81.9kg to 81.4kg). I would like another thread too please, but might have to ask if people would mind if I post something on it every day, to keep me on track? Nobody would need to reply, I think that level of accountability would keep me on the straight and narrow.

LucyWardrobe · 06/10/2023 07:42

Final weigh in
Starting weight (1 August): 11st 6lb
Starting weight for this thread: 10st 9.7lb

Week 2 weight: 10st 9lb

Very slow losses this month but still going in the right direction so happy with that.

MegBusset · 06/10/2023 10:50

Well done @violetcuriosity @HarpQuartet and @LucyWardrobe - you’re doing brilliantly 🎉

Fouramclub · 06/10/2023 13:09

Good work everyone, well done!

The display on my scales are broken so I can't see what I fully weigh but it looked like 72.something so it's basically a maintenance for!

I am so up for another thread!

Peae · 08/10/2023 20:50

Welcome newbies and a massive congratulations to those who have stuck with their goals!

I am still hanging in here. I was thinking of dropping out for a bit, but a kind member of this parish checked in on me and, well, here I am. I have not lost any weight. Again! So, I was a little bit embarrassed. Also, we had a publicity photo taken at work on Friday and I was really shocked and embarrassed at my size and appearance.

So, I'm up for another round! Shall we stick with Fridays for accountability and check-ins? (I don't see any problem with people checking-in more regularly as a PP mentioned).

Thank you @Peae I'll hop over to the new thread and see you there. I'm reminding myself that there are benefits to IF beyond weight loss, but in truth it is losing weight that would be the single best thing I could do for myself. So I will stick with IF and bore everyone on here with little notes of self-encouragement or some such. Need to figure out what I need! I have a bit of a problem with the notion of "free choice" . Along the lines of "of course you can have a crisp sandwich, it's your free choice within this eating window". Instead of that being the end of the discussion, I need to answer back to myself (kindly) to remind myself that choices are not made in a vacuum, and all sorts of life circumstances have led there, and put in a pause to see if something else for lunch would align more closely to the future I want for myself. Proper grown up stuff.
