Vegan 5:2

The first rule of vegan 5:2 club is tell everyone you are vegan and aiming to do the 5:2 to lose weight.

Now that's out of the way, would anyone like to join me? I have a 5:2 vegan recipe book on the way ready to help me.

I need a lot of discipline here as I need to lose around 20kg. I'm determined to do it though. Who's with me?

Welcome @tootootaataa, sorry only just saw your post.
That's great it's inspiring to know it's worked so well for you in the past.

I'm stuck guys! Hovering around 70, 71, 72. Still fasting, just not losing anything. I've got a stone to lose to be at my wedding weight, just I've for the NHS ideal.
Anyone else struggle at around size 12 14 overlap? Just into NHS healthy weight of it helps.

Have you tried doing vegan whole foods plant based? I did this and lose weight so fast. But had to add some other foods, as got too skinny and people were commenting. Basically the diet is vegan but with no processed food. Bread is the most processed I would eat...everything else I made from scratch.

BelleOfTheProvince · 20/10/2021 22:18

That's kind of how I got fat haha. Too much 'from scratch' cooking with rich ingredients like coconut milk. It took me ages to realise I'd actually put on weight because I was 'eating healthily'(I was post partum so contributed my clothes not fitting to a baby bump that wouldn't shrink haha)

It probably works for lots of people, but I think I have mucked up my metabolism. Can't seem to shift this last stone and was always effortlessly slim before.Confused

Do you drink? I lose a lot easier when I lay off the booze

BelleOfTheProvince · 21/10/2021 07:18

I'm off the booze. Not a drop for two months 😅

@BelleOfTheProvince it worked for me so well. I gained 24 kgs with my third pregnancy and had a few kgs left to lose. It came off within a week or two on this diet and I had to work hard to keep the weight on. But I didn’t make rich foods w coconut milk daily 😀 I did that maybe twice a week. I have a lot of nuts and flax meal though added to my meals. But I think this diet works fast for some, but not all. I also would snack a lot of fruits and nuts. Have a smoothie (fruits w water and coconut yogurt blended). Giant bowl of oatmeal made w water, berries, nuts, flax and mashed banana. Yum! Oatmeal almost every morning for me 😀 but my BMI became 18.5 so decided to add fish/dairy once or twice a week plus allow for some fries sometimes. That helped me put back 1 kg.

Mamabear12 · 21/10/2021 07:38

Forgot to add I also had lots of beans w brown rice, sweet potatoes and veggies. Salads w humus and bread. Pasta w veggie sauces. Veggie curry. Those types of meals.

Mamabear12 · 21/10/2021 07:39

And I also need to get off the booze. I did the first month. But now drink again a few times a week (but just two glasses of wine max each time, which I guess is one too many!). What benefits do you notice after stopping? Was it difficult for you? How often did you drink before?

BelleOfTheProvince · 21/10/2021 08:23

I was losing weight before, lost around 10kg in three months coming off the booze, doing combination of low carb 5:2.
Definitely stalled now. The scales are hovering around 71/72 and before I was losing 1-2kg every week.
I have slipped up and had a few more carby meals recently, but they've been offset by fasting so shouldn't make too much difference. Bit worried my body can't tolerate carbs anymore 😓
Having another fast day today after quite a few in a row. Any low carb recipes would be appreciated 😋

How do you do low carb vegan? I would be so hungry I think. Is it just beans, fruits and veggies? I need the carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, bread and pasta to fill me up and keep weight on. But I guess people’s bodies are different. My body is okay w carbs.

BelleOfTheProvince · 21/10/2021 13:44

It's hard, but I had put on so much weight I needed to do something drastic.
I've been making cauliflower rice, courgette and carrot noodles, that sort of thing.
Tofu, lentils, beans and plenty of veg. Feeling a bit uninspired today. Have peppers and mushrooms if anyone has any nice under 500 calorie recipes?

@BelleOfTheProvince well done on the booze free months, that’s amazing. What are you doing on your NFD? When I very first did 5:2 I also stuck to TDEE, now I don’t really bother but try to keep an eating window to 6-8hours, might that work?

Another carb lover here I’m afraid!!

Mamabear12 · 21/10/2021 17:47

I am making pizza with peppers, mushrooms, broccoli and onion top. Another idea I would do is flat bread w peppers and mushrooms. But if no carbs, I would do that on top of salad. I don’t count calories, as I feel that a vegan diet is mostly low in calories unless you add a lot of oil, nuts etc. I do add a little of this though bc I need the extra calories, but if you don’t add oils and nuts the meals should naturally be very low in calories. What kind of sauces do you use or how do you season your veggies? Do you eat sweet potato? That’s a health carb option. And I don’t think it has the same effect as rice and wheat.

BelleOfTheProvince · 25/10/2021 13:40

I'm sticking to calorie and carb control on nfd, but have cheats occasionally at the weekend.
I'm thinking of switching to do 16/8 to lose the final stone. Not sure if that's a good idea. Fast days definitely not working anymore
Had three in a row last week and still 71/72kg.

*What can I do to lose this final stone?!?"

Do you eat sweet potato?
Am making a sweet potato and pumpkin soup for fast day today. Anyone got any ideas for non carb alternative to bread? I never feel like I have really eaten with just soup.
