Vegan 5:2

The first rule of vegan 5:2 club is tell everyone you are vegan and aiming to do the 5:2 to lose weight.

Now that's out of the way, would anyone like to join me? I have a 5:2 vegan recipe book on the way ready to help me.

I need a lot of discipline here as I need to lose around 20kg. I'm determined to do it though. Who's with me?

Hi
Great idea. I'd love to do this
I have about 2 stone to lose and I'm definitely up for some mutual support

Trixabellecrowther · 21/09/2021 04:18

Me :)
Definitely doable. I combine with low carb too sometimes.

BelleOfTheProvince · 21/09/2021 07:54

Hi all, I hanks for joining me. I've been doing it for 1 month now. I've lost around 1 stone or 4kg, not entirely sure as my scales are crap and rather temperamental.

I've been combining with low carb too but have fallen off the bandwagon the last two days (ridiculously sick of carrot and corgetti noodles!)

I've got around 10kg left to lose, which if I continue at the speed I'm at should be doable by Christmas.

I've probably gone over my calories in most of my fast days, but figure that's ok because the low carb offsets it.

Fast day today. I've got some chickpeas ready and plan to do some sort of slow cooker curry ready for around 6. Maybe Massaman with peanut butter powder.

What are your weight loss goals and fast day tactics?

Trixabellecrowther · 21/09/2021 22:01

I want to lose about 10lb. I am not massively overweight but a definite beer belly and definitely at the top end of what is comfortable.

I have just began a thread about my low carbing but I will copy things over here too on the days I fast :)

I use barenaked noodles. Theyre, an 'acquired' taste shall we say!

fenulla · 22/09/2021 06:38

@Belle that's amazing, well done
I started yesterday. Was challenging. I probably went a touch over as I drank coffee with oat milk during the day but I'm feeling really positive about it
I have 2 stone to lose (can't believe I've said that out loud)

fenulla · 22/09/2021 06:39

I haven't tried those noodles Trixabelle
Anyone have a recommendation for a decent spiraliser though?

BelleOfTheProvince · 22/09/2021 07:56

I have this one:
www.lakeland.co.uk/19736/Vegetable-Spiralizer?src=gfeed&gclid=CjwKCAjwhaaKBhBcEiwA8acsHNl-Erx2u91lNPxBTcsZig5ZFa3oNs9GSXyvNgO0vB1cbr4SHs7GBRoCx_cQAvD_BwE

It does the job.

I definitely wouldn't worry about oatmilk in beverages, it's not very fatty compared to dairy so I think it's far less likely to impact fasting. I usually drink herbal tea but have had the off black tea with milk at lunchtime on a fast day.

Fenulla we're both in the two stone to go club then. Don't feel disheartened if nothing happens for the first couple of weeks. I did not start losing till around week three. I'm expecting my progress to slow a bit as carbs have crept back up. I might add in an extra fast day to combat this though. I accidentally had a piece of toast extra when I broke my fast yesterday but am not going to beat myself up for it!
Those noodles don't sound.particually inspiring but might make a change from carrot!

Thank you for the tip. I'll check out that gadget. I'm eating normally today- yay
Must remember not to go mad

trixabellecrowther · 24/09/2021 18:48

today I have had a cup of coffee with low cal creamer (15 cals) a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds, and a huge stir fry with two quorn vegan fillets (120cals)barenaked noodles (30 cals) and a load of veg (about190cals).

I am working tonight though (finish at 0700) and not convinced that this will see me through until then.

I'm thinking if I make a huge salad with two more fillets, and spinach leaves and a blob of low cal dressing of some sort... I'll go over with coffee though as I am really tired! It's about 15 cals for the creamer so I guess not too bad.

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/09/2021 19:05

Where do you buy your barenaked noodles? I'm tempted although I have heard they can be bad if you go wrong.
Down to 75 kg according to dodgy scales so 10kg to go. Had a night off tonight (double carbs, pasta for lunch and beetroot burgers and chips- sure I'll pay for that later.)
Gotta decide which weekend day to fast and organise the other day now.

I get them from Tesco-B&M have just began doing the Shirataki noodles (same noodles as barenaked ones) for half the price though!

They're about £2 at tesco and 30 cals a packet.
They don't taste of much and sauce doesn't cling to them as it would 'normal' noodles. They also need a good rinse before cooking as they ming (smell like fish) but they're very filling and a great pasta substitute for stir fries etc.

You can use them in anything you would normal noodles, and there's a rice version at Tesco too although I am not sure about B&M.

BelleOfTheProvince · 27/09/2021 20:31

Ohh I'm not sure about the fish smell lol!
🤢
74kg today and managed to buy a pair of dungarees in size 12(obviously they are forgiving, I'm a 14 at least for jeans!)hooray!
Two fasts planned for this week, back to back though so I am a bit nervous. Has anyone done two days in a row? Fast days I tend to fast breakfast, lunch then have dinner and a few rice cakes before bed.

Have got a nice tofu marinating away. Peanut butter powder, chilli sauce, rice vinegar, soy and Thai spices. Probably a bit overindulgent but the powder is so many less calories than the butter!

BelleOfTheProvince · 05/10/2021 13:33

Hi everyone, how are your fasts going?

I've stalled a bit at 73kg. Have let the carbs creep back in again, nothing drastic, just toast for breakfast and a little sushi etc.

I tried to make keto vegan pumpkin bread and it was a disaster! I may have better luck with muffin moulds instead of a bread tin, but not sure I can commit to keto just yet. A bit worried I would break and double up on calories in a carb binge.

Looking forward to Xmas now, has anyone thought about what they will do to indulge without overindulging?

Hello can I join? Going to rejoin the 5:2 thread too. Long term intermittent intermittent faster here, dropped the baby weight 8yrs ago with it, have never managed much longer than a few months since but got happily back on the wagon at the start of this year and back to my happy weight until I had hip surgery, started drinking again and not moving.

Back to the point where my clothes are too tight so back to IF I go.

Been on the vegan transition journey for 8years and fully vegan with the odd fail once or twice a year for about 4years

FD tomorrow and 10lbs to lose

BelleOfTheProvince · 07/10/2021 08:04

Welcome, @KobaniDaughters . It's great to have an hand at this. I'm very new to fasting myself and have been wondering what happens when you reach your target weight. I do hope I can just eat sensibly but most 5:2 seem to consider it a permanent lifestyle change rather than a diet, so I will probably try 16:8 at that point.
10lb is a good goal, very doable especially if you lower carbs a bit in general too. Good luck with the fast day, it will be the hardest today because your body is not used to it, but remember that it's only today- tomorrow you can eat when you like!
It's my fast day today too. Coke and tea in the morning and will put on a slow cooker curry for evening. My curries have taken rather a dip since I've been watching my calories I am afraid as coconut milk really makes them. Hoping today's is less watery than last time!

KobaniDaughters · 07/10/2021 15:28

I maintained for a long time with a mix of 6:1 and 16:8 but get derailed every so often. I’m a bit fan of IF otherwise and at least have never gone 10lbs over my happy weight. It’s all motivation that’s hard!!!

Have planned what to eat today and inputted into MFP so less chance of straying. Hummus and salad for lunch, Mexican cauliflower rice and lentils for dinner. Bang on 495

KobaniDaughters · 07/10/2021 15:28

Also re plant based milk, I do count the calories especially with oat milk as it’s pretty high in calories compared to almond and used to use a 15cal creamer in coffee too but now just have herbal teas and black coffees

BelleOfTheProvince · 10/10/2021 11:32

Mexican cauliflower rice and lentils for dinner. Bang on 495

This sounds great. Do you have a recipe?

OP posts:
KobaniDaughters · 10/10/2021 16:19

It’s a total cheat - my local supermarket does a frozen Mexican cauliflower rice and separately a pack of steamed lentils and I mix them up. FD def easier if I can plan in advance and put together quickly and easily. Ate the same yesterday fir a second FD this week

BelleOfTheProvince · 10/10/2021 22:10

Ohh that sounds nice. I've had a very naughty weekend so probably have to slip in three fast days this week to counteract it.
72 so just over a stone to go. The last bit it always the hardest isn't it?

OP posts:
KobaniDaughters · 11/10/2021 00:22

Sounds like you’ve done brilliantly so far!!

Am planning to fast Tuesday and Thursday this week and stick to 16:8 the other days

BelleOfTheProvince · 12/10/2021 16:01

Fast day today. The weekend carb fest caught up with me and I'm back up a kg.Envy

Toying with doing three fast days in a row this week to get back on track.

Anyone else a bit worried fasting gets your body used to running on less calories and so massively put on weight on not fast days?
I have to admit I've been really strict even on non fast days as I had so much to lose. I hope this doesn't work against me.Confused

OP posts:
KobaniDaughters · 12/10/2021 16:53

No not really, I don’t think it’s enough time for your body to adjust to a calorie deficit to be honest. When I first started IF I would count calories on NFDs and when I have a reasonable amount to lose I would do TDEE, these days I don’t bother but at least try to do 16:8.

Am fasting today too! Pre planned a lentil feta salad (found a new vegan feta so 🤞🏻 it’s good!) and think I’ll slow cook a miso, ginger soup and add some veggies and low cal noodles

tootootaataa · 15/10/2021 07:21

Can I join? I have 6 stone to lose. I just graduated last night, have spent two years not moving/working at a desk for 12-16 hours a day. Am desperately ready to start a fresh on Monday!

tootootaataa · 15/10/2021 07:23

I was doing this pre-studying. I fasted 16:8 most days and swore by my green smoothie which I filled with all kinds of supplements.

Sadly, lapsed greatly whilst under stress, but am going to dust off the spiralizer and nutribullet...
