Welcome to the continuing thread for those following 5:2 or other forms of IF (Intermittent Fasting) such as 4:3, ADF, or daily 16:8 smile

Last thread was here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/4128689-5-2-Thread-94-Its-a-New-Year-a-New-Day-and-were-feeling-GOOD

Basically it is 2 very low cal days ("fasts") per week - which need not be consecutive - and eat "normally" to maintain on the other 5 days.

For those who have dieted or maybe overeaten for years, eating "normally"
means roughly the number of calories your body needs to maintain - NOT reduce - its weight (see TDEE calculator below).

IMPORTANT
If you have had past diagnosed Eating Disorders or serious MH problems you should NOT do 5:2 or any other kind of fasting

JARGON alert

16:8 is a different type of fasting, which can be combined with 5:2.
Daily zero-cal fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour window. To lose weight, this needs a weekly calorie deficit as well

b2b (optional) back-to-back / consecutive fast days, each with an increased allowance of 650 calories instead of 500

BMI (Body Mass Index) healthy range is 18.5 - 24.9 for Caucasians. Upper limit may be 22 for some of Asian origin.

FD = single Fast Day: aim for 500 calories (600 for men or 25% TDEE whichever is higher) or 1000 cals for BF
No alcohol or junk on FDs
Even if you exercise strenuously, do NOT increase FD cals to allow for exercise

MFP = My Fitness Pal, a useful App or website to track food & drink calories

miniFD = MiniFD, 850-1000 calories, no alcohol or junk

NFD = Non-Fast Day, averages around TDEE

NSV / LSV = Non Scale Victory / LifeStyle (change) Victory, e.g. compliment, smaller waist, clothes size

SV = Scale Victory

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expenditure, the average number of calories you burn in a day, is calculated from your current weight, height, age, activity level.
Aim to average about this for NFDs.

WOE / WOL = Way Of Eating / Way Of Life. We say this instead of "diet", to emphasise that we must make a permanent change in how we eat, to maintain our new healthy weight long term.

Welcome heregoes74
I feel your pain re bring peri menopausal.
There seem to be no consistence apart from the inconsistency!
Good luck getting into the zone.
It's so hard to get into it, isn't it?
Once you've seen some positive results, that will hopefully motivate you to stick with it.

At weigh-in today I plateaued, which I expected.
According to my Nutracheck app I'll be my target weight on 9/9.
We'll see.....

harriethoyle · 11/08/2021 17:56

@BaconAndAvocado sounds like you managed to undo the mischief of the weekend!

Aiming to do the same, kitchen is closing here at 663 and I'm going to running club tonight 🏃‍♀️

Have c.750 planned for tomorrow as b2b+1! We'll see how I get on...

No idea what the woman symbol is doing there but it is an all girls running club!

Be interesting to see how your b2b abs 750 goes harriethoyle

Indeed there was much mischief of the culinary kind at the weekend.
Next week is mine and DD's birthdays. It's gonna get messy 😂

harriethoyle · 11/08/2021 20:23

I've got DSDs and in laws staying this weekend and my (adorable) PILs are feeders! My mil always brings the most incredible bread selections over and it's like crack to me...

OP posts:
harriethoyle · 11/08/2021 21:25

I cracked and had to have a piece of toast... I was absolutely starving after run club! But so 799 finish which gives me 1320 for my b2b. And have subbed a lower calorie option for tea tomorrow to try and claw back a few...

Thanks for the welcome everyone, finished first FD on 527 which I'm very pleased with 🙂 just booked holiday for next year so have something to aim towards.

@BaconAndAvocado it sounds like a good weigh in after the weekend?
@harriethoyle wow, I've barely managed a 30min walk with ds before dinner so in awe of run club on a b2b 😲

Off to bed now, fingers crossed I can keep to tdee tomorrow

harriethoyle · 12/08/2021 08:10

That's a great first FD @heregoes74! When's your next one?

I'm within half a kilo of my maintenance weight this morning so that's geed me up for today's final push. My breakfast tasted amazing I have to say...!

OP posts:
heregoes74 · 12/08/2021 09:13

thanks harriet I think FD2 might be tomorrow, the weekend would be too difficult....

have a great day everyone Grin

harriethoyle · 12/08/2021 10:00

Weekend WAY too difficult ime @heregoes74 - friday might be pushing it too. Depends how much you like a friday night glass of wine! Better to plan properly than set yourself up to fail...

OP posts:
absolutelyknackeredcow · 12/08/2021 11:40

Well done @heregoes74 - great start - keep on it.
In awe @harriethoyle - I'm on my third FD of the week but I ate a lot of food all day yesterday (though I did walk along way so don't feel too bad).
I'm only going to do one next week and none the following week as I'm on hols

heregoes74 · 12/08/2021 11:55

@harriethoyle I do love my Friday night glass bottle of wine but that's part of the problem so will attempt it Grin

blimey @absolutelyknackeredcow your 3rd FD Shock

harriethoyle · 12/08/2021 13:29

Gin and slim is a very good wine alternative and far less calorific @heregoes74 ;-)

I just had the apocryphal mumsnet MASSIVE SALAD for lunch and daren't tell you all that it was filling for fear of becoming a cliche! Ready meal later and collecting DH from the airport should mean I stay under 800 for today which is grand for day 3 of 3...

absolutelyknackeredcow · 12/08/2021 13:46

@heregoes74 if you saw my social calendar in next couple of days you would understand - so.much.food - mainly in a bikini Grin

DeeDimer · 12/08/2021 14:02

Hello! Can I join? I was at least 4 stone underweight but a combination of IF and low carb means I've already lost 19lbs in 6 weeks so I'm very happy. Im gutted no one has noticed yet although my scrubs were decidedly loose yesterday.
My longest fast to date today I'm at 20 hours so far.

DeeDimer · 12/08/2021 14:02

Sorry obviously OVERWEIGHT!!

BaconAndAvocado · 12/08/2021 18:08

Welcome deedimer
I take it you're doing intermittent fasting?
Kudos to you, it sounds so hard!!

harriethoyle · 12/08/2021 18:26

@DeeDimer 19lbs is great - keep it up!

Kitchen closed at 937. I was fecking ravenous for dinner! But thought it was better to have a slightly higher calorie tea then no energency toast later. Gonna be PISSED OFF if the scales don't go down tomorrow morning 😂

OP posts:
absolutelyknackeredcow · 12/08/2021 19:06

Kitchen closed on 600! I have been very very active today so hoping this will counterbalance the badness for the next couple of days

BaconAndAvocado · 12/08/2021 21:39

Good luck for the weigh-in tomorrow harriethoyle

I've had a very very bad day calorie-wise and it's a double birthday week next week.
Going to try and do b2b Thursday/Friday but we shall see.

harriethoyle · 13/08/2021 08:47

Only another .2 of a kilo off! With which I am RAGING! Haha... but am just trying to remind myself that any loss is good and if I'd had a normal day yesterday I would haven't the deficit reserve that I have for this weekend coming up...

OP posts:
absolutelyknackeredcow · 13/08/2021 12:05

That is so unfair @harriethoyle! Enjoy the weekend and get back on it tomorrow

BaconAndAvocado · 13/08/2021 13:55

harriethoyle don't despair. I've had weeks exactly like that with no rhyme or reason.

Don't give up, you will get to where you want to be.

harriethoyle · 13/08/2021 18:01

Thanks girls...I'm drinking wine because it's been a long week and it's Friyay!! 🍷🍷🍷 Happy weekend everyone x
