Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

@robertsmithscorpsebride No that's just me! I think I'm the only one combining 5:2...it's certainly not mandatory, I just am trying to kickstart my weightloss.

robertsmithscorpsebride · 17/02/2021 13:43

aha thanks for that lady panic over Grin Grin Grin

Sweetpea84 · 17/02/2021 14:04

5 1/2 of my first week so pleased with that. I’m cooking Joe wicks Gousto meals 4 nights a week.

roastpotatoesss · 17/02/2021 14:24

Oh wow @Sweetpea84 thats amazing, well done!

ohhhhitsme · 17/02/2021 14:45

@Sweetpea84 👏🏼

robertsmithscorpsebride · 17/02/2021 19:39

Wow sweetpea that is awesome Smile

Skinnydecafflatte · 17/02/2021 20:42

Well done @Sweetpea84 that’s fabulous!

roastpotatoesss · 18/02/2021 08:34

Had my fancy restaurant three course meal at home last night and enjoyed every mouthful- didn’t have wine or seconds though which I would definitely have done in normal times! Also still ate within my window. Going to try and eat very light for the rest of the week to compensate.

Have had to pop into the office today and putting real clothes on is a real eye opener isn’t it!! It’s hardened my resolve that’s for sure.

Hope everyone has a good day!

ladybranstonpickle · 18/02/2021 08:48

Nice one Sweetpea84!

Well, things are inching down on the scale - the Happy Scale app tells me my rate of loss is about 0.2-0.3 kg per week. Which is rubbish but at least its downward! Not sure if I need to cut back on my non FD days - am I eating too much? I track everything but perhaps I'm not accurate enough. Not sure what to do really. Will take measurements on 1 March. I do feel leaner though and my jeans this morning are looser around the waist than they have ever been?

It's not a FD today, planning a lovely sandwich lunch with asian-style coleslaw and whatever other bits I can find in the fridge.

What is everyone doing for exercise?I know we have a couple of runners here @anothermadamebutterfly - anyone else? I try to walk each day and have been doing 30mins of Yoga with Adriene every day since mid-Dec, haven't missed a day yet! I need to figure out how to get some HIIT in, though.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's updates!

feliznavidad2 · 18/02/2021 09:13

Amazing @Sweetpea84 ! Well done.

@roastpotatoesss which meal box did you go for? It's my birthday this weekend and we've got an all singing all dancing dirty burger coming in a box with lamb fries Grin. It looks obscene, but good!

I'm also planning to do some serious cooking as may as well enjoy this time spent at home, I've got a Chicken Ruby recipe from Dishoom on my to-do list.

@ladybranstonpickle you're not alone with the happy scale being a bit less than impressed with your efforts, mine has given me a date far far off based upon my current efforts so really need to up my game. I'm still just focusing on sticking to my 8 hour window. It does seem to make a difference even if my eating isn't the best.

Need to up my exercise resolve. May try and encourage 4yo to partake in YouTube video with me today. I really rate Team Body Project.

Was running pre-Covid and could do a 5K in just under 40 minutes but not doing v well at all since being poorly in a November.

Me and 4yo are currently isolating as contact with likely positive person. Today is going to be full of air clay, films and books. And drawing. Think of me. 😐

Today we've got quesadilla for lunch as loads of blimmin' tortillas to eat. And chilli con carne with rice and homemade guacamole for dinner. 😋 🇲🇽

Thank you 😊 Good luck to everybody this week xx

roastpotatoesss · 18/02/2021 09:27

@feliznavidad2 It was an incredibly fancy lasagne with a posh salad and tiramisu either side, from a fancy modern Italian place near where I live. It was delicious but I don't want to think about the calories Shock

I'm also struggling with exercise- I simply dont like it, and I've tried it all! But I know I need to just stop moaning and get on with it even if it's only 20 mins a day. I quite successfullly lost weight by only calorie counting (no 16/8) a couple of years ago and didn't exercise, but I'm older now! Also in non pandemic times I did quite a lot of walking around from A to B, some days now I hardly move. I think I used to burn quite a lot of calories just be generally going about my life which I'm obviously not burning anymore!

Hi everyone. I just started the 16/8 diet 2 days ago. I only recently heard about it and am really hopeful that this will work for me as I don’t think I could really follow a calorie controlled diet too well.

I have noticed though that I have a funny taste in my mouth a lot of the time. And I am feeling paranoid that it has given me bad breath. Is this something others have discovered? And is there a way to tackle it?

Not something I've found but I am almost constantly sipping water, do you think you're drinking enough?
Bluebeeee · 18/02/2021 21:52

Oh thanks for the reply. Maybe I could try drinking more water. Possibly not having enough.

ladybranstonpickle · 19/02/2021 09:00

Hello everyone....sipping on my black coffee. feliznavidad2 sounds delish - I love mexican food! I used to get these green tomatillo enchiladas from a restaurant down the street when I lived in New York....best hangover food ever! Hope it went well with the 4 year old entertainment project yesterday.

Welcome @Bluebeeee! You could try some pure peppermint oil on your tongue to see if that helps? I often just brush my teeth whenever I feel like it. I don't think toothpaste breaks the fast.

It's Friday! Which means takeaway night chez Pickle - My husband wants Chinese as we didn't get it last week, we thought the place would be too busy with Chinese New Year celebrations. I do like it but I find I retain so much water with Chinese - I think it's the salt/MSG?

Happy Scale is telling me I am losing at a rate of 0.3 per week. I would really like it to be close to 0.5, but not sure what to do? Cut back on cals on the non FDs? I could try shortening my eating window to 17:7, or 18:6....although I think it would be hard to get my husband to eat lunch any later than 1pm.

A small victory last night - I didn't have a date with my tea last night at 9pm - I figured it would mean I couldn't break my fast until very late today.

Good luck today to everyone, please check in and let me know how you are doing!

roastpotatoesss · 19/02/2021 09:58

Living vicariously through your takeaway @ladybranstonpickle!

Tomorrow is a week since I started 16/8 properly and I am finding the fasting quite easy- it's the calorie counting during the window that I'm struggling with! It's like my brain knows I only have a limited window so tries to make the most of it or something. I'm trying to stick to 1200 cals but I know I won't have done every single day, so will be interesting to see what the scales say on Monday!

It's meant to be 17 degrees tomorrow so I might go out for a long bike ride or something so I'm not tempted to sit on the sofa all day eating crisps...

Aftertheharvest · 19/02/2021 10:02

@ladybranstonpickle I had Chinese last night and immediately felt bloated and uncomfortable. Much more than before I was doing IF so taking it as a sign that my body had changed and was objecting. Expecting that won't see much progress in the scales for a few days because if the salt/msg but I am relaxed about that.

Faith50 · 19/02/2021 12:01

roastpotatoes I hear you on the struggle of keeping to calories in your eating window. I am hoping restricting calories, eating in 8 hour window, walking and drinking 3 litres of water will all aid me down to 10 stone. I have nothing to lose as I am doing more now than say a month ago. Once I arrive at 10stone I will work on maintaining.

Faith50 · 19/02/2021 12:03

ladybranston
We used to have takeways once weekly and I stopped when I decided to lose a stone. I do miss it (Chinese/fish and chips). At times I do oven cooked fish and chips - not quite the same but far less fat content. I am steering away from fried foods for now.

anothermadamebutterfly · 20/02/2021 00:04

Evening all! Hope all the Friday takeaway people had a good dinner. We normally do takeaways on Fridays, but this week we had a delicious Lebanese takeaway for my husband’s birthday on Wednesday instead. It included baklava, which is a true weakness of mine. All of that, combined with wine and copious pancakes on pancake day and various other glitches this week means that I will definitely not be getting on the scales on Monday… I am back on track today, but will be counting this as a week off and then starting again properly next week.

@feliznavidad2 I hope you survived your day of crafts and drawing! Did your 4-year old join in your exercise video? My kids are late teens and pretty lazy at the moment, but they have on a few occasions announced that they going running with me to keep me company, reassuring me that I do not need to worry, they will make sure to go nice and slowly. I know they mean well, but it makes me feel ancient!

Re. exercise, yes, @ladybranstonpickle I have been doing the couch to 5k, which I am loving, and it has helped me also with some stress I was feeling about WFH and life in general at the moment. I used to go running regularly (even, I am rather proud to say, managing to complete 3 half-marathons many many years ago).

@Faith50 I sometimes make roast sweet potato chips, which are really tasty and apparently much better for you than white potato chips.

Have a good weekend everybody!

Faith50 · 20/02/2021 16:36

anothermadame
Your Lebanese meal sounds tasty! I am sure you enjoyed every bite. Baklava melts in my mouth - easy to overeat as the pieces are bite size.

It so happens that I am planning to eat sweet potato chips this evening! A good size portion for only 135 calories. I cheated and bought ready prepared cut chips!

anothermadamebutterfly · 20/02/2021 20:08

@Faith50 the meal was extremely tasty, and I have no regrets about any of it, including the baklava Grin. Hope you enjoy the sweet potato chips!

feliznavidad2 · 20/02/2021 20:50

@anothermadamebutterfly Ooh Lebanese sounds delicious! And bloody love baklava. Sounds like a sensible approach to take for the rest of the week.

4yo requested we did some yoga so we did some cosmic kids yoga... not entirely sure how 'good' it is in terms of yoga moves but it was better than nothing and he enjoyed it.

Sticking to my window here (apart from the G&T that I'm sipping, clear spirits don't count around celebrations, yeah?) 🤫 but eating not especially well within it - it's birthday tomorrow so I'm cutting myself a bit of slack.

Hope you're all having good weekends.

I have had an utter failure of a weekend- my period came yesterday and since then I’ve just felt like the size of a house. I don’t think I’ve snacked as much as I normally would but I have definitely been eating more than I should, dreading the scales in the morning! I did a long bike ride on Saturday but I was exhausted by the end of it and felt really sore all over from period pains so I just made myself feel even worse I think.

If I’ve not lost tomorrow then that’s one thing but I’m terrified of a gain, I feel so bloated and horrible!
