Lockdown weight and I feel so rubbish

aceofbase1 · 17/08/2020 22:30

I have gained two stone in lockdown and I just can't stop eating Sad I've put myself in the obese Bmi range Blush I'm quite short so it's easy for me to gain weight. I've gone from a size 12 to a 16 and I feel so miserable.

I'm usually a size 14 but I lost a load of weight for my wedding and got to a size 12. Now I've ballooned. I'm planning to do the fast 800. I have a target start date of 1st September. But in the meantime how can I sop feeling so rubbish Sad I feel bloated, my portion sizes are huge and I keep eating until I feel sick.

I start the day great! Poached eggs and spinach for breakfast and then by 4pm the snacking starts crisps chocolate etc and then a huge carb loaded meal and ice cream and I go to bed with stomach ache and nausea Blush

I've never weighed this much in my life and I can't believe how quickly I've gained.

I don't even know why I'm posting Confused suppose hopin I'm not alone and is anyone else planning to start September?

Oh no Sad. Apart from the obvious, what is making you feel so miserable to cause the bingeing? How has lockdown affected you in particular?

Instead of thinking about losing weight immediately, could you perhaps look at ways to cope with your emotions without turning to food? Maybe overeaters anonymous or similar?

Incrediblytired · 17/08/2020 22:39

Yeah, exactly this happened to me (size 12- size 16 on lockdown) and so I signed up to slimming world and now I’ve lost 1stone 3pounds in 6 weeks.

Feels tons Better to be in control.

aceofbase1 · 17/08/2020 22:47

Chichic I'm pretty sure it's because our wedding was postponed so that brought so much stress and also trying to work from home with a toddler was hell on earth, so home was so stressful I'm getting enjoyment out of eating nice sugary foods Sad also drinking more because we were sat at home.

Incrediblytired that's amazing!!! I bet it feels so good to be on track! I suppose I feel guilty that I'm not starting now but at the same time I see September as a new month and a good time mentally to say goodbye to summer and overeating. Plus kids back at school so less stress Grin

MrsP2015 · 17/08/2020 22:50

I'm similar.
Weight has shot up and clothes don't fit/ those that do are uncomfortable or look ridiculous.

I know I want to lose and I could as we have a healthy meal every eve but I need my bedtime block of chocolate that I crave and I eat crap all day while wfh. Biscuits crisps pastries all full of calories.

I have no will power as the hill seems too high.

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2020 07:12

Why wait until September? That's still 2 weeks away and you can gain a lot more in that time. Read the Fast 800 book, read it again if you've read it already. Watch the series currently on channel 4. Start now. In 2 weeks you could be 10lbs down rather than 5lbs up, that's quite a swing.

DianaT1969 · 18/08/2020 07:19

Another one saying start today. But not on a restrictive Fast800. Ease yourself into it by stopping junk food and stop eating after 7pm (for example). Cut out alcohol next week. Then by 1st September you won't weigh more and will have a few good habits in place.

macaroniinapot · 18/08/2020 07:47

I can so relate OP, I've gained a stone, probably a stone and a half now and I'm so out of control. I can't stop eating, huge portions, crap food at every opportunity. I had been doing so well before lockdown and I feel so down about it.

AuntieMarys · 18/08/2020 07:49

Do not buy any crap. Avoid the aisles of badness in the supermarket. If it's in the house you will eat it.

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2020 07:56

I’m the same. I was getting fitter again before lockdown but it’s totally ruined my routine and messed with my head. Eating and drinking only things to do! I’m feeling quite disgusted with myself and trying the 16:8 diet to limit eating time. But need to cut out alcohol, and eat less.

SistemaAddict · 18/08/2020 08:03

I started doing 16:8 and 1250 calories back in June. I bought a Fitbit and some scales and I'm down about a stone since I started. I don't know exactly because I didn't have scales at the start. I use my fitness pal to track everything and have git back within a healthy BMI now from being overweight. I'd not delay starting your new healthy eating and exercise plan because you might be inclined to eat more in the run up thinking you won't be able to eat certain foods afterwards and you might gain more weight. Start today with making healthier choices and cutting down on portion sizes. Alcohol seems to be a big source of many people's calories so that's something they can be changed quickly. Good luck, lockdown has been awful for the waistline Thanks

Swearwolf · 18/08/2020 08:08

Why can't you start it a bit sooner than September? I'd say just start it as soon as you've done your next shop and get the right things in.

If you do have to wait until September, try to get into the mindset now and ease into it. So take some of the easier elements and work them in, and try to up your activity a little - go for a walk every evening or something. You'll end up starting the proper diet feeling good!

Ragwort · 18/08/2020 08:12

Good luck, I also put on weight at the beginning of lockdown but I took control at the end of May & followed Low Carb boot camp (on here) and have lost approx 19 lbs so far and enjoyed lots of delicious food. Loads of advice and good ideas on the Boot Camp threads.

aceofbase1 · 18/08/2020 09:31

I'm loving all this advice and motivation! I'm currently reading the fast 800 book.

I've woken up today and thought I'm going to take one day at a time between now and 1st September. I'm having herbal tea instead of a milky latte this morning. I have an event at the end of this month which will involve eating and drinking which is why I was going to put it off as nothing planned after that.

And the poster that said about gaining more your right! Within the last week alone I've gained 3lb Sad

My next shop is at the weekend. I do have some healthy food in now though so I can make good choices this week.

My danger time is 4pm-8pm that's when I really ruin everything. So maybe I should get myself out for a walk as soon as I finish work!

MrsP2015 · 18/08/2020 10:00

Thank you for this thread.

I Like the people who are basically saying stop moaning and do something Grin
I will moan and rarely do anything but eat! So today I'm wearing some trousers that used to fit and now don't fasten (joys of wfh) so I can feel the reminder I need.

Plus, 1 day at a time.
I'm not going to eat crap all day but will get something at lunch then nothing til tea.

Op I agree I'd plan something in your worst eating time.

I've also been good as I'd usually go to the shops Tuesdays before I start work to get snacks and I haven't... little steps.

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2020 10:11

That's the spirit OP, every little helps.

Losing weight is hard.
Being overweight is hard.
Choose your hard.

I'm a huge fan of sparkling water and drink it by the gallon. It really helps me feel full. Maybe give it a try.

aceofbase1 · 18/08/2020 12:06

MrsP yes I like the do something about it comments too Grin

Ive not eaten anything yet - I have a migraine from hell so I don't even feel like eating. I'm going to seize this opportunity as a fast! So I last ate at 8:30pm last night. So I'm going to go as long as possible and break my fast with a mushroom omlette and then as soon as I finish work for the day I'm going for a walk.

I felt so bloated and crampy last night and I know it was down to how much I'd eaten Sad I don't want to feel like that again.

OP posts:
MrsP2015 · 18/08/2020 12:42

Op hope you're ok.. but yes I have to agree don't eat Wink being ill has given me a kick start in the past!

Have you got a weight app/ fitbit?
I have somehow lost 0.1kg since last week so have just had a bowl of cereal and that's it til tea. Seeing a loss no matter how small and no matter how tight my clothes are helps me. When I know I've not lost I don't bother weighing lol but it helps me to keep trying when there's loss.

Drinking loads as someone said is great to fill up.

Some days if I'm having a not so healthy tea I really like, I see it as a reward so either don't eat anything or eat healthy that day!

Sometimes it feels like the ideal weight is so far away though doesn't it Sad

aceofbase1 · 18/08/2020 15:00

I do have an old fit bit somewhere I must dig it out.

Maybe I could even treat myself to a new one! That might also help motivate me Grin

So today I stuck to my plan, I ate at 1pm so it was a good 16.5hr fast. I have a mushroom omlette and some Greek yogurt afterwards and about 4 unsalted cashewnuts.

Ive had a couple of cups of herbal tea and really enjoyed them and I've never liked it in the past so after my walk I'm going to buy some different flavours of herbal tea and stock up.

I'm loving everyone's replies as it's really spurred me on to deal with this head on and not delay any further!

I wonder how much I can lose by the end of the month?!

MrsP2015 · 18/08/2020 19:43

Well done op that all sounds brilliant!! 👍🏼

I held off snacking too and had a veg dinner and will have something nice shortly 😂 I figure if I cut out the day crap I can have a reward at night.

Well done us on a proper day 1!!

Oh and yes I'd find your fitbit/ get one as it may spur you on.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 18/08/2020 19:50

I just got a Fitbit last week and it’s really highlighted to me via the logging drinks thingy on the app that I don’t drink nearly enough water. I’ve been making sure to have plenty and I’ve definitely felt less hungry for 3pm/evening chocolate than previously, especially during lockdown as you say (pesky Covid). Best of luck!

aceofbase1 · 18/08/2020 20:22

I'm so pleased I started this thread as I have somehow put an end to eating rubbish through peer pressure Grin

I ended the day on 802 calories and 52g of protein and I've eaten a lot mushrooms Grin

I had cheese stuffed Portobello mushrooms and some berries and Greek yogurt for dinner. I've also made a big batch of mushroom soup for the next few days!

OP posts:
aceofbase1 · 18/08/2020 20:22

Oh and I also went for a walk Grin

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 18/08/2020 20:31

Good work OP!! I think you should change your username to MushroomLover Grin

I am exactly the same - eating through stress and boredom all the way through lockdown. I also did a tonne of cooking and baking, and in an attempt to cheer us all up it was almost all "treat" bakes and comfort food - plus far too much booze. I hit my highest ever weight on 1 August and was shocked into action - I don't want to get Covid in the autumn when the schools go back and be high risk!! So I downloaded MFP and started tracking, DH and I both eating a high fat low carb diet and keeping calories at a deficit, and we have each committed to doing some form of exercise daily for toning and mental health. I'm 18 days in and I have lost 5lbs and DH has lost more. Even 5lbs has made a positive difference to my clothes, my mood, everything.

Sissy31 · 18/08/2020 20:40

Hi @aceofbase1
Well done for today, thats a great start!
I 100% agree with other replies about starting now, or at very least starting better habits now!
The beginning will be tough for sure but after a week or so it does get easier and now youll have this thread for advice and support from us Smile
I track my calories on My Fitness Pal and have a Fitbit to see my calories in vs calories out.
I also use the Zero App whcih helps track my fasts. When i'm feeling hungry towards the end of my fast it tellz me how long i have left and if i am in the "fast burning zone" and that motivates me to continue on. I like having goals and targets to keep me motivated so having the apps works great for me!
There are also lots of work out videos on youtube ect for workouts from home if you dont want to/have the chance to go to a gym. I'm not a huge fan of the gym and i much prefer a home workout! Smile

rottiemum88 · 18/08/2020 20:43

I have an event at the end of this month which will involve eating and drinking which is why I was going to put it off as nothing planned after that.

This isn't the way to look at things if you want to make a positive change for life. There are always going to be events, special occasions, nights out, etc when you eat and drink more than you normally would. You need to learn to balance your lifestyle around these events and have good habits the rest of the time, which allow for extra indulgences every now and again. If you wait until September to start then you're setting yourself up for an on the wagon/off the wagon approach and feeling crap every time you have something going on socially which throws you slightly off plan.

Good luck Thanks
