So with the big reveal of the 50th anniversary programme it feels like a good time to start the 2026 chat!

Here we go again 🥳🥳🥳

I’m guessing that might be because a lot of YP were choosing wildly inappropriate songs, that maybe don’t show what they are capable of, especially those with less experience/guidance available to them.

my dh sees that a lot even at drama school auditions.

I remember my ds telling me some young guy had chosen something from hedwig and the angry inch way back in 2019. Apparently the panel found it an interesting choice 🤣

My DS remembers a boy who was about 13 or 14 doing Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror. He'd brought a costume and had a whole routine that involved sitting on people's laps!! God knows what the creatives made of it.

seventwelve25 · 03/11/2025 17:56

I would have loved to have been in that room 😆😆

doesanybodyhaveamap · 03/11/2025 18:27

Certainly a bold choice….

@somuchbetterthanbefore You withdrew your post before I had a chance to reply, and maybe you don't want to post about your DC on a public forum, but if you want to ping me a private message I'll happily share my thoughts (based on my DS auditioning every year of the last decade!) about the question you posed.

Lionelblair · 14/11/2025 15:43

Hello all, have I missed something or is the Christmas concert not happening this year?

Biscuitsneeded · 14/11/2025 16:46

I don't think it is😢.

Lionelblair · 15/11/2025 07:14

thank you @Biscuitsneeded that’s a shame. 😞

yodaforpresident · 25/11/2025 16:30

How did I miss that there was a new thread - where has the year gone?

Sadly, it does look like there is no NYMT Christmas concert this year as it is such a fantastic event.

I have just booked DD's musican audition for next year at NYMT - for anyone else considering it, she did the workshop last year and it was a lot of fun and very welcoming.

No stage performer auditions for her this year as she can't commit to Easter this time around unfortunately.

Comefromaway · 26/11/2025 09:51

Shame about the Christmas concert. Ds never managed to make one due to other commitments but I gather they were lovely.

What does your dd play Yoda?

First day of panto rehearsals for him and he is ill. He's feeling dreadful with flu but has gone anyway.

Has anyone seen NYMT's alumni panto post. Ds is featured.

yodaforpresident · 26/11/2025 11:50

She plays clarinet and cello @Comefromaway. What terrible timing for your DS, hopefully it passes quickly.

Comefromaway · 26/11/2025 22:51

Apparently the theatre offered everyone a free flu jab today. Bit late for Ds!

Mcmumager · 27/11/2025 12:11

Has anyone had the under 18 song list yet? Not sure if my dc is applying- the list might make up their mind!

ByFancyPeer · 01/12/2025 12:31

HI, I am trying to work out the schedule to book the audition. Anyone already booked the London ones and let me know when the time will be?

I cannot attend the audition locally and now figuring out which alternative is the best to book for.

The auditions are usually something like 10.30/10.45 registration for an 11am start. The day usually finishes around 5pm - 5.30pm. I don't see why that would change drastically.

RunningOnTeaAndChocolate · 06/12/2025 17:07

Hi All,

Has anyone signed their young person up for NYT auditions this year? I thought I had done the form but haven't received a confirmation email. Just wondering if anyone else has the same experience?

Thanks x

yodaforpresident · 18/12/2025 15:19

Hi @RunningOnTeaAndChocolate my DD did the NYT audition last year and I'm not sure that there was a confirmation email - you could try emailing them as they are usually very quick to respond. Best wishes for the audition for your YP.

RattyMole · 29/12/2025 20:58

So here we are again! However my DD isn't free at Easter now the dates have been released for that - they are performing. Is there any point in going to the audition? Do you think we could get someone else to fill the place?

Ubertomusic · 29/12/2025 23:56

I've realised we cannot make most of the dates because of NCO but what are New Musical Workshops? They say "Our residential New Musical Workshops are an opportunity to shape the journey of a new piece of music theatre by learning and performing new songs and scenes while giving crucial feedback to the composer and writer.", does it mean they are mostly for older teenagers and YP who can give meaningful feedback? What sort of feedback are they looking for?

doesanybodyhaveamap · 30/12/2025 09:23

@Ubertomusic the new musical workshops involve a range of ages and actually often have quite a cohort of younger ones. They are properly cast, so it depends on the show. For example, The Boy Who Sailed The Ocean in an Armchair had quite a few younger roles- it has been workshopped twice and staged and full production too. Everyone we know that has been on a workshop has had a fantastic experience.

You mention NCO- is your DC applying as a performer or musician? Sadly the new musical workshops don’t involve musicians, but there will be plenty of musician opportunities in the summer and musicians aren’t needed for quite as long (no Easter rehearsal) so maybe you could work that around NCO? (My DC is both a musician and performer and we are NCO alumni 👋)

In terms of ‘meaningful feedback’ the process itself provides the feedback if that makes sense, rather than individual participants. The creatives will be looking to see what works and what doesn’t. Of course, the kids will naturally have opinions that will emerge through the process and will feed in. Some will feel more confident to share ideas than others, but the writers will be there and will be working with the cast to refine their ideas.

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap
We thought of applying for both strands, DD does lots of music and dance but not so much acting except drama at school. She's never played in the pit yet and would love to have this experience but would also enjoy more dancing, singing and acting.

She's in another national project that clashes with summer dates 😞 unless NYMT lets a musician miss the first day (unlikely I guess).

The NYMT summer shows will all have different start dates. Don't be put off auditioning just because you can't make the first day of one of them.
