NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

I asked my ds today as this is first year he’s been in charge. Although obviously delegating paying the bills to me. Anyway he then forwarded me 3 invoices - one for each instalment. He is in our house and received them on Sunday.

We received payment advice for Into the Woods on Sunday as well.

@LibbyRuncie Don't fret. NYMT are nice and wouldn't give the place away without checking! Maybe give it a couple more days and follow up if nothing appears? I'll let you know when I hear back.

I also didn’t receive a confirmation email despite filling in the acceptance form within the time frame! Starting to panic a bit now!

No for our house. But I’d think the email address would be the same.

I am hoping CB emails will be tomorrow then! Has anyone here for CB had theirs please?

@LibbyRuncie Don't panic. I'm just checking DS' offer email which he forwarded to me on the day, and it definitely says payment by 8th March. They won't have given her place away!

@Biscuitsneeded bit we still didn’t get a confirmation email of acceptance either! I screen shot the acceptance so have emailed them to follow up!

I had email contact with them today about the workshop dates mine had been offered because the dates were different on the form to the dates we had been told in the offer letter. - they were very nice and said they are quite overwhelmed with emails and communications this week so told me not to worry if I hadn’t booked on before the deadline - but they had sold out of the original workshop dates we had been offered so had added another date - which I didn’t know was something that happened or I might have been quicker off the mark with booking! I haven’t had any payment email yet, but have only just filled out the online Google form.

@LibbyRuncie Good you've emailed. Please don't worry tonight. (I say that because I know I would in your shoes too, but I want to reassure you that after 9 years of my DS auditioning, I can safely say the NYMT team are all kind and decent people and would not remove anyone from a cast without checking first whether any communications had gone astray). I know this is a very high-admin period for them, as @NCMO2G has mentioned, and sadly it's a lean organisation and there isn't a big office full of admin staff. They are probably dealing with things as and when they can, but the team are lovely people and I am sure someone will get back to you quickly. If there's been a glitch in sending your payment instructions it will get sorted out.

@Biscuitsneeded thank you lovely!!! Yes I am just hoping CB emails will come round tomorrow and I haven’t missed anything! I am a worry bod! Ha!!! But good to know about their values so hopefully any glitches (if there is any!) will be sorted without losing her role!

Hi @LibbyRuncie my kid is in CB and we have had payment emails. There were 3 and they came on the 25th.

However, there was no acknowledgement email because you get the confirmation at the time when you complete the form - which you obviously did. Don't worry!

And they definitely don't remove people like that - one year my husband somehow didn't complete one of the payments. They contacted us after a while and we ironed it out - they definitely don't take away places without checking!

We haven't paid yet. You have another week anyway.

Promise you, as has already been said - lovely people. Don't let your daughter panic, it's all fine 🙂If there's been a glitch with your invoices, they'll sort it.

@allhailthebrain was there a contact phone number on the payment emails please?

did you get a a ‘congratulations you’ve accepted your place’ thing after you completed the form and then nothing else until payment email please?

ps congrats on your Dc being cast! What role is he!?

Nothing at all by email other than the invoices, which arrived later. There's no phone number (I'm not sure NYMT have a landline) on the invoice - just the accounts email.

All sorted I had a response from my email! Aren’t they amazing!!! So lovely! DD is flagged as accepted her place/role and not to panic even if it runs after deadline they had to manually input the email addresses in for invoicing! Good grief what an admin nightmare for them! Thank you fabulous mums/dads for the support and help glad I asked though so at least it’s flagged and they know! Phew and now I can breathe again!

Hi everyone hope you don’t mind a slight change of tack. My DC is doing a one of the new musical development workshops with NYMT in the summer. Does anyone know if they get cast in specific roles based on an existing scripts before they arrive or is it all developed when they’re in the room? Just asking out of curiosity!

Hi @Keepcominghome - normally it’s all done as part of the process. I believe last year Kate did a lot of moving them around as it evolved and letting them each do something.

When my son did it, it was cast from the auditions - but I’ve not known them do that since. But that year the writer was also one of their team doing the auditioning as he’s been a part of NYMT for years so always is - that’s probably why.

@allhailthebrain thanks - either way sounds exciting and I guess we’ll know more by the summer.

Anyone else’s DC involved in Lightning Boy? Don’t think I’ve spotted anyone else yet. My DS was thinking of starting a Snapchat group as he found it really useful last year.

@Operasingerkath I have a friend with a DD in Lightning Boy. I think the DD would like to be in a snap group if your DS sets one up. Do PM me and I'll pass the info on!
