Yep, agree with coach - need train/race the higher distance more to improve the shorter distances.

Yes I agree too as made sense when she said it. He's been racing the 200m free occasionally to help his 100 but he's never really focussed on 400 before until BS told him too!

Just think he's never really done it because 800 isn't a para distance. He's in for it for December meet so just got to wait and see if he's accepted now.

What's even funnier is he holds the para regional record for it because he swam it a many years ago when his old club did a distance event 🤣🤣

Eccle80 · 08/10/2023 21:36

That sounds a dramatic afternoon, he did well to get himself back together for the 50!

@Hellocatshome what happened about the 1500 when they got evacuated, did they have to re swim the entire thing?

Hellocatshome · 08/10/2023 22:00

@Eccle80 yes but this was a Friday evening and they reswam that heat Sunday morning so wasn't so bad. Having said that hebjas never seam it since so maybe DS thought it was worse than I did.

Eccle80 · 08/10/2023 22:02

I guess at least they didn’t have to go straight back and do it again, but that must be really hard, especially if they felt they were doing better the first time.

Glittertwins · 09/10/2023 09:13

So far, I've never had an evacuation although it has come close - we had a power cut right as a 200IM race was finishing. Fortunately no stroke count misjudging by the swimmers but there was no chance of a finish judge doing manual placing!

We had our first meet back since the summer champs this weekend -
Winter Counties. Nice warmup to the Winter Regionals in a few weeks

itsgettingweird · 10/10/2023 17:56

Recovery set yesterday morning - SC instead of LC.

Then 3k test set - LC - this morning 🤣🤣

DS went 3.5 secs quicker than he did 4 weeks ago when they did the first one 🤗

Glittertwins · 10/10/2023 18:31

Sounds similar to ours except it wasn't LC. One dead swimmer at the end of it....

OP posts:
Hellocatshome · 10/10/2023 19:21

Aww DS would like a 3k test, his old squad did a 2k test but his new squad dont do a distance test they do the swimming equivalent of a bleep test which is truly brutal.

Glittertwins · 10/10/2023 19:25

I like the sound of the bleep test one...might see what the coach says about that 😆

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 10/10/2023 19:27

Oh yes ds has done the bleep test type one before hello - many years ago.

I remember the coach having a whistle!

Hope the dead swimmer has been revived glitter 😉😳

I'm just about to go and collect my ds who may be close to collapse after that this morning, and he's doing 2 hours swimming and 1 hr land this evening!

Porseb · 10/10/2023 21:37

Just catching up on the posts and I know the meet which was evacuated this weekend. DD's former squad was at it.

Great to hear everyone's DD / DS back in the water and enjoying it.

Hellocatshome · 11/10/2023 07:19

So yesterday DS went to a swim shop to look for his first pair of proper racing jammers. They were to be his main Christmas present so was allowed free reign (well almost) the pair he picked a £40 pair of Dolfin First Strikes which 1 I've never heard of and 2 have the green tick so not even really a proper tech suit. What can I say the boy likes to be comfy 🤣

Glittertwins · 11/10/2023 09:56

Wow, you got away very lightly there!!!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 11/10/2023 18:20

Every swim parents dream!

I won't buy £400 pairs but would expect to pay up to £250 now for ds to get a decent pair.

Luckily his sports aid funding covered the last pair then BS gave him 2 pairs so they should last this year at least 🤞

Hellocatshome · 11/10/2023 18:30

Yeah I was thinking £150/200 as an extra special treat. He is a very hard boy to spend money on he doesnt ever want anything. He still has a 10 year old xbox, his kickboard is older than he is and he is happy with his 2nd hand Arena 2.0s. I mean its great but makes present buying hard.

Teateaandmoretea · 12/10/2023 07:34

the dolphin swim suits also last forever and are basically indestructible. So a good future investment I suspect.

Glittertwins · 12/10/2023 09:11

We've had a problem with Dolfin jammers. Shame as they were quite cool!

Oh no what was the problem with them? Its not too late to send these ones back.

WarningToTheCurious · 12/10/2023 13:23

The Dolfin Uglies were always popular with girls at training (but this was few years ago now). I might have bought myself one.

Glittertwins · 12/10/2023 15:39

They got a reasonable amount of use before the drawstring totally unravelled and he couldn't tighten them up properly. At least it was only Dolfin training ones, not brand new speedo full on race ones as happened to someone else

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 12/10/2023 15:49

We've always used decathlon and they've also started to go at waistband quickly too.

Shame really because they were good quality and a good price previously.

whereonthestair · 15/10/2023 17:24

For a variety of reasons DS has now done three meets since September. He has shaved significant time off some events which he doesn't like, but his best events (100 free, 100 back) are pretty stagnant not obviously getting worse, not getting better. Pool today reputed to be a "slow" pool. Not sure what that is but there you go. To be fair he also hasn't been 100% well. I remind myself it's a marathon not a spy even when it literally is a sprint.

whereonthestair · 15/10/2023 17:25

Marathon not a sprint even.
