Oh goodness but its positive to hear they are in hospital. Hope they make a good recovery.

I think the wind today was supposed to be about as strong as it was at our regionals and the swimmers at that found it very hard going with quite a number having to pull out after a lap or two.

Best wishes to the swimmer and to the people who have had a difficult day dealing with the incident.

Teateaandmoretea · 31/07/2023 09:05

That doesn’t sound good at all 😔

itsgettingweird · 01/08/2023 12:53

Good luck to anyone travelling to Sheffield or Swansea for English or welsh open nationals

Glittertwins · 01/08/2023 15:01

We have a few going, good luck all!

Good luck to everyone competing I hope they all enjoy the experience.

I'm waiting for DS to get home from training so I can give him his promotion letter. He has been promoted to the top squad in the club which will mean a big increase in training hours and intensity. I think he will be excited but he never shows any real emotion so I will probably just have to guess what he is thinking as per normal.

Glittertwins · 01/08/2023 20:15

Ooh well done to him!!

Well done to minihello 🤩

We are not training now until end of august.

His coach told him to rest after british and we have inhaled return after 2 week shutdown and we are away for a week of that!!!

We aren't back to full timetable until 18th September!!!

I've actually half painted my bathroom - a job that's needed doing for years 🫣🤪 (it's not just swimming that's for in the way!)

Glittertwins · 02/08/2023 05:17

We're on wind down now then a rest until the end of the month.

Hi all,

Hope you're all enjoying your break?

Anyone know anything about protein powers? Ds consultant has suggested he starts having protein supplement to support the muscle wasting especially because he's an athlete.

I have the added issue that he has really bad sensory issues around textures and smells!

So if anyone has any recommendations or can point me in the direction of a website that would be great. I'm wondering whether I'll be better off making chocolate protein muffins or brownies for him?!

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2023 19:56

Powders not powers 🫣🤣

Hellocatshome · 13/08/2023 21:08

My DS has several sensory issues and the only protein enriched thing we have managed to get into him is Arla Protein Yogurts and believe me we have tried many powders and bars and yogurts etc

WarningToTheCurious · 13/08/2023 21:35

Ex swimmer DS is now a powerlifter, and uses creatine powder as a protein supplement.

Not sure how he takes it - I think stirred into milk or juice?

Hellocatshome · 13/08/2023 21:41

Creatine is a non protein compound. It is used by powerlifters and swimmers but it isn't a protein.

WarningToTheCurious · 13/08/2023 21:53

DS uses creatine instead of protein powders as he finds it more effective.

So you’re looking at whey protein or similar then?

I know a swimmer (junior international) that used Complan.

WarningToTheCurious · 13/08/2023 22:01

I’m not sure what muscle issues miniweird has but creatine has been shown to help some muscular conditions so might be worth looking into.

Glittertwins · 14/08/2023 01:08

We have the High5 recovery powder, not sure if it's protein, I just got what I was told! We've also got the Get Buzzing chocolate and coconut protein flapjack bars. Really nice but an expensive habit

He has hereditary spastic paraparasis.

I'll certainly look into creatine as I'm clueless but can research what different protein supplements do and if and how they would work for ds.

itsgettingweird · 14/08/2023 06:54

Thanks all. Lots to look into.

Sadly I don't think he'll eat bars are although he has a really good variety of foods he'll eat they are limited iyswim?

But he loves chocolate brownies and muffins. He eats the Aldi own brand of fibre one bars (because he also needs lots of fibre because weak muscles affect the bowel!) and I'm wondering if I could make some sort of chocolate oat and protein muffin?!

Porseb · 14/08/2023 14:25

Mine likes a post recovery smoothie - Greek yoghurt (has higher protein content), fruit, oat, bit of milk - you could add a scoop of protein powder as the smoothie would mask it.

Also he needs to make sure any supps he's using is batch tested and has batch numbers. We use Healthspan Elite as you can download the batch certs.

itsgettingweird · 14/08/2023 15:56

Oh yes anything we go for will be checked on global.dro.

We have to do that for every batch of medication he takes and he's on 2 daily and has a 3rd emergency medication.

Hellocatshome · 14/08/2023 18:38

DS swam in his last open water event of the season (well until he decides to enter any more) and made his first money from swimming by coming in 3rd. Apparently though according to DS he gets to keep it so I'm still not getting a return on my investment 🤣🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 14/08/2023 21:39

Have you reminded him how much the race entry fee was 😆

I did. He offered to buy me a cake from the cake stall 🤣

Glittertwins · 14/08/2023 22:25

Well that's something!

Well done on the prize money. I have missed a trick here because I haven't asked DD for any of hers this season and she won some money from swimming skins - will know better!!!
