Traditionally for many years MN has had an audition thread; so here it is as the auditions start in a few days 😀

Wonderful news trumpetboysmum and threefun. My DS is on reserve for Mains.... fingers crossed a space comes up for him.

littleladsdad · 13/12/2018 19:11

Congratulations to Trumpetboy, a good day for the mumsnet brass department! Grin

Well done to everyone else too!

Picking ds up from school tomorrow - can't wait to see him!

Trumpetboysmum · 13/12/2018 19:23

I’ll keep my fingers crossed musicdoc

WindMum · 13/12/2018 19:33

U12s 😀

We have private lessons with a local teacher, JDs too far away and too expensive (and even more so with train fares). But do have scholarship to school with fantastic music department. This is working for us and daughter doesn’t feel she is missing out.

We live in an area where there is relatively little from a county music hub for DD.

If NCO hadn’t worked out we were looking at National Schools Symphony Orchestra and the National Prep Schools Orchestra, you dont need to be at prep school, as alternatives.

Doubleup · 13/12/2018 19:46

We were thinking similarly WindMum.

Trumpetboysmum · 13/12/2018 19:49

Oh and for brass players looking for something instead of / in addition to NCO The Brass Academy courses are excellent

Pollymalex104 · 13/12/2018 19:49

Congratulations and commiserations as appropriate to all our young musicians. Great news that Goo is on her way to being back on track - and amazing that she found it in her to get back up there and audition again. Ds has got Mains and delighted that trumpetboy is in too. Fingers crossed for Musicdoc's ds.

Doubleup · 13/12/2018 19:54

Waffle a good lesson for Goo in what can happen when you get back on the horse and have another go! Resilience. Smile

Radiodependent · 13/12/2018 19:56

Well done those with good news today and hope it works out next time for those with less good news. I would never have considered Nco for ds if it weren’t for these threads a couple of years ago.

Wafflenose · 13/12/2018 19:57

Goo is the least resilient person I know, and just cannot cope with setbacks. She didn't recover from last year's experience until today. Hopefully she will be better going forwards!

Owlm · 13/12/2018 20:15

Well done to all your talented DC's. So great following the thread Star

Doubleup · 13/12/2018 20:58

Yes, learning resilience Waffle Smile

I've just stumbled on this thread. DS has been offered a place on double bass in U11 orchestra. It's our first involvement with NCO and he's very excited.

Bronnye · 13/12/2018 22:00

Just wondered - what are JDs? Lots of references on this thread but I can't work it out...

Trumpetboysmum · 13/12/2018 22:02

Polly great news !! I’m so pleased your ds has got a place again - my ds will be happy .
Bronnye Smile how exciting and well done to your ds

Tromgirl · 13/12/2018 22:06

Tea - there will on some instruments be more children ‘of standard’ than can be given associate places. They can’t I guesss have Orchestras of sucj large size that they can support them or just doesn’t work musically. Fir the last few years there seem to have been very few spaces for associates in London for example. It sounds like your dc did really well but so did lots of others and they only have so many seats. If you are concerned I would ring the office - they can explain it much better than any of us.

littleladsdad · 13/12/2018 22:45

Bronnye JD=Junior Department i.e. Royal Academy of Music Junior Academy, Birmingham Conservatoire Jnr Conservatoire etc. Well done to your ds!

Ah, I wonder if these "non-standard" letters are the people that will then be invited to join regionals when people drop out because of distance/other activities?

Eroica · 14/12/2018 00:06

By "drop out" I mean decline their place, sorry, am v tired.

threefun · 14/12/2018 07:18

MusicDoc DS and I are crossing everything that a reserves place comes up for your DS. Lots of fantastic news on here - huge well done to everyone and hugs and encouragement to keep trying to those who weren't offered a place this time.

Boyskeepswinging · 14/12/2018 07:20

I'm aware of several people getting reserve places over the years so fingers crossed!

Boyskeepswinging · 14/12/2018 07:22

Sorry what I meant is getting full membership from a reserve place. It's early and it's been some week!

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2018 07:55

Threefun great news that our ds’s will get to meet up again too Smile
