Traditionally for many years MN has had an audition thread; so here it is as the auditions start in a few days 😀

First year auditioning and not really fussed about the outcome and not hopeful- I have no idea how it all works and it has been useful reading about it here. If my daughter was 9 (a month before her 10th) what was she auditioning for? Is it by age or grade - she just did G5 yesterday - oh and she plays the harp- thanks

Thank you niggle - just the same as last year for me then sitting through the nativity plays willing them to end so I can go and check my phone

thanks littleladsdad- so is there a difference with the main orchestra and the age bands, apart from average grade levels?

The main orchestra is also age banded, it's the 14 year olds.

Mimu I think it’s mainly by the school year. So for under 10s it’s kids in year 3,4 and 5
U11s year 6 etc
I’m guessing we can start refreshing emails from 9am? 9.30?

Luckyfab I never know how they’ll do it! Last year I got main email first and the next day I heard about training.. if there’s a pattern I’m wish they’d share it !

Every time an email comes through I am on tenterhooks!
Even though I am convinced he won’t get in 😆

Harpmum, every time a new email arrives my heart skip a beat. When the real email will arrive i m not sure I'll have the courage to read it. I m sure she won't be in but I still have hopes

even though i don’t think it went well (sight reading....) and not too bothered about outcome now (never fun getting a harp out of the house) it is still stressfull checking emails - i’m at a conference and next checking time is after lunch! Good luck all

Almost every child you ask says the sight reading was awful! I've only come across one who said their sight reading was awesome and it wasn't my child!

That may have been my child... According to her trinity exam report she got 12/10 for her sight-reading!

Hahaha.. ds said the sight reading was easy but that doesn’t mean he played it correctly!!
I hate this wait. Nails are now gone!

Also very suspicious because the sight reading was pronounced 'not that bad'... we'll see about that! Saying that, it does help that they are allowed longer for the sight reading (than in the exams), I think I'm right in saying, anyway... Good luck to everyone's talented children! :)
