ABRSM, Trinity etc Spring session exams - who's on the bench?

DS is taking grade 5 cello ABRSM next week, and I have a flute pupil taking grade 5 this week ( both dates different exam centres).
Pupil is destined for a merit, I think. Her pieces are pretty good, scales could go well if she concentrates, aurals should be fine as she's already passed grade 7 piano, but sightreading is inexplicably weak; she really struggles with rhythm, despite my best efforts and her piano experience.

DS's pieces are great, his scales are pretty secure but he's finding legato arpeggios a bit of a chore ( made harder by changing from a 1/2 size to a 4/4 size cello this term), his sightreading has the potential to be good ( he does well when I'm standing over him, cheering him on!) but he's prone to forgetting the last sharp/flat in the key signature and making the odd silly rhythm mistake, and his aurals are ok...IF he would just sing!
He's taking the exam at school, which is very convenient but does mean I won't be able to hiss last minute reminders at him!

So, what grades are other people's children/ pupils taking, and how's it all going?
As a parent of an exam child, I can now fully empathise with my own mum, who had to endure 2 of us taking exams in 3 different instruments, plus theory - much easier to be the child doing the exams! 🤣

Well done everybody! Great results. I had a little one take Grade 2 Clarinet on March 20th, so am expecting her result towards the end of this week. I can't imagine that she got anything other than a merit, but we'll wait and see.

catkind · 02/04/2018 17:52

Yay, well done everyone, specially nosebleed boy. What a trooper! Good luck to those still waiting.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 04/04/2018 11:09

DS sat his Grade 1 piano on 13th March and I keep checking online, but no results showing yet. Surely I should have heard by now? What is the procedure for chasing up a result after the deadline?

Wafflenose · 04/04/2018 11:43

I'm not sure if anyone from that week has heard yet, but I'm happy to be corrected on that. They probably just have a backlog due to Easter, or it could have gone for moderating. I'd give it another week (I've had ABRSM results take anything from 8 to 31 days in the past).

Wafflenose · 04/04/2018 11:45

Just check their web site... they are hoping to get results from that week out by the 6th, but if they are being moderated it can occasionally take a little longer than advertised.

MirandaWest · 04/04/2018 11:45

It took ages for DD to get a result last year - was definitely over a month. Think you jusy have to wait. Is very frustrating

I meant to say just checked, as in I had a look for you... didn't mean to sound like I was bossing anyone about!

SadAboutTheBoy · 04/04/2018 18:17

Whayhey! We just got an email from DS's teacher and he got a Distinction for his Grade 8 Smile. I am SO pleased for him as he was full of cold and thought he had done really badly in his scales, but he did well enough in his pieces - got full marks in a couple of them Shock - to make up for it.
Sorry to gush, but I am just soooo pleased for him as it's his last exam before he goes to Uni.

Wafflenose · 04/04/2018 18:26

That's brilliant!! Well done to him!

cantkeepawayforever · 04/04/2018 19:27

Yay Sad! That's two unexpected grade 8 Distinctions from poorly boys convinced that something went' badly!!

Kutik73 · 05/04/2018 07:42

Fantastic results everyone, especially those who were not in perfect conditions on the exam day! Is there any more exam in this session? Or now it's in summer?

Wafflenose · 05/04/2018 17:50

My last result came in today... Grade 2 Distinction! I had a request played for her and Rara on the radio as a sort of 'well done' gift! So that makes three Initial merits, one Grade 1 pass, one Grade 2 distinction and one Grade 3 distinction for last term.

I expect we'll have to get the next lot in shortly. I think I have about six again for next term (and 33 music medals) but anything ranging from 12-20 in the autumn!

se22mother · 05/04/2018 17:52

Fantastic waffle. Was that Rara's bff?

Wafflenose · 05/04/2018 17:54

Yes, and Rara has been trying to protect her feelings for a long time by not mentioning her progress or her exam. Friend started nearly a year before her and is good! But the mum knows, and I wanted to ring in for Rara because I did for Goo last year with the Grade 7 flute. It's all out in the open now, which I think it should be.

se22mother · 05/04/2018 18:05

It's a tricky age isn't it with them so conscious of not hurting friends. Dd didn't tell her bff that she was taking g5 violin until the night before the exam as dd was aware that friend (who took the exam the term before) was proud of being the highest level in the school.

Wafflenose · 05/04/2018 18:06

Aw, similar then. A lot of my pupils at the same school will now catch up with Rara on paper, because she isn't doing any more exams for a very long time. Years, even.

Radiodependent · 06/04/2018 06:33

Wow, great results on this thread. High merit here for G2 double bass, we are pleased but also a bit sad as he was chasing distinction but seems to have had a wobble in the scales (knew them but nerves I think). He has already learned a grade 3 piece though and is off to a local music course to play film themes next week so things will move on.

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/04/2018 09:22

Congratulations on the excellent results. Still haven't got DS's results - I think they have to come via the music service so could take a while. As he had more than a wobble in the scales I suspect ignorance is bliss!

Trumpetboysmum · 06/04/2018 09:54

Great results everyone . We won't hear till after the holidays .

lovinbeingmum · 10/04/2018 11:42

The wait seems interminable. Is anyone else still waiting on results from the week of the 19th? DS took his grade 2 piano on the 19th. We haven't heard back yet and he doesn't seem to have forgotten about it either - as I thought or rather hoped he would :)

Same week, nothing yet but DR has her lessons at school so we could have a while to wait yet. Been waiting even longer for dance exam results tbh.

CotswoldStrife · 11/04/2018 10:07

DD sorry - kindle change there!

Killybashangel · 11/04/2018 10:41

Waiting for results of an exam on 24th March. Dd's teacher usually texts results as soon as she knows
