Great, thank you very much for the info. Will take a look and tell Brown Owl. The girls have been told that the current square interest badges are changing - do you know anything about that? Since Christmas our Brownies have only able to work for badges that are in the badge box (not the greatest selection!), nothing else.

drspouse · 15/03/2017 14:08

Land The Chocolate interest badge is a Guide interest badge - there isn't an equivalent for Brownies I'm afraid!

There are also Challenge badges put out by individual units (vary from very good and challenging, to not really worth the free download cost and mainly fairies and glitter and crafts you could think up yourself in 5 minutes), and by levels like Counties and Regions. I really like Region challenges as there's been a lot more work put into some of them you can tell and it's not just the same old ideas again.

Finally apart from the Interest badges, GirlGuiding has periodic challenges e.g. on Olympics, Politics etc. etc.

Liz79 · 15/03/2017 14:09

I have asked to join that group but don't have any guiding pictures to put up &my profile is private anyway. I see our leader is a member though

Land0r · 15/03/2017 14:12

Thanks drspouse, that's very useful. Are the Brownie square interest badges being stopped though do you know?

drspouse · 15/03/2017 14:26

There is a revamp of the badge programme which means that there will be new interest badges all round, I believe, but as usual with these things in Guiding it will not be immediately, nor will it be when they say it will be, so definitely worth knowing about interest badges for the time being!

InflagranteDelicto · 15/03/2017 15:58

Your leader can add you Liz

By all accounts the entire programme week be changed, adventure badges, interest badges, the lot. But information is woolley to day the least. My unit have made it clear that whatever happens they want to gain all three adventure ones, even if I unofficially run them parallel to the new programme. Girl lead, right?

I've taken a challenge badge, and turned it into a challenge for them to complete over the next two weeks at home. It's all about exploring their promise, and I thought what better way than to live it through my kindness challenge bingo sheet 😁

Groovee · 15/03/2017 17:05

Toftwood brownies do a chocolate challenge badge. It's good fun.

I have a big box of interest badges and will be using them up: they were paid for by the girls as part of their subs. I will offer them as individual challenges while running the new programme in meetings.

rivierliedje · 16/03/2017 21:10

I didn't think the new programme officially started until 2018-2019, so a while yet.

RueDeWakening · 17/03/2017 11:59

YY, info I've seen so far says that the new programme will start being rolled out from September 2018, and there'll be a year where both run alongside each other - which will give us a chance to use up any badges etc that we've already bought. Then from September 2019 it'll be new programme only.

A trainer at County Day last weekend showed us a slide with more info on than I'd seen before, I'll see if I can put a pic of it up on here later. It looked quite similar to the current Scouting programme, I thought - "joining in" badges on anniversary of joining GGUK, unit activities (6 themes), theme badges (based on unit activities I think), staged badges, plus interest badges (including for Rainbows, YAY!), and end of section awards.

InflagranteDelicto · 17/03/2017 12:09

Yes, it's sounds very similar to the scout programme. Although I still have my brownie birthday badges on my blanket, and the guide equivalent pin on trefoils. I think it'll be great, but I like the idea of using up the badges as personal challenges.

rivierliedje · 17/03/2017 14:13

We have county training day soon, so hopefully more info to come that way.

lucysmam · 18/03/2017 17:58

Oh dear...my new lit has been suckered into Younique

Groovee · 18/03/2017 20:17

Did anyone take their unit to see Beauty and the Beast at the special Odeon screenings this weekend? My Guides really liked it

InflagranteDelicto · 19/03/2017 13:59

It was fantastic, wasn't it? Got home from it an hour ago. Only two toilet trips during the film, which I thought was jolly good going!

ThornyBird · 19/03/2017 14:00

Behind a bit but re 'census' - have you seen that as of this year, the Scout Association has stopped it for adult networkers, leaders and volunteers?

We've been discussing it in our district leaders FB group - that and the high profile Scout Ambassadors - including an active Brownie Guider (Ellie Simmonds). Are GGUK missing a trick?

SparklyUnicornPoo · 19/03/2017 14:03

It was brilliant, DD went yesterday with her Brownies but by the time we went to book tickets were sold out so they put on an extra screening for us today, we invited parents and siblings (Rainbows so were worried about it being a pg) so i didn't have to take anyone to the loo and for the first time since my eldest was born I watched an entire film without anyone asking me 'who's that?' or 'whats happening?'

Groovee · 19/03/2017 14:58

I was booked to go with Dd yesterday but she had to work so we went on Friday. Too many of my leaders work Saturdays. But loved it.

I heard the SA had done that. Maybe GG are watching to see if it works.

abeandhalo · 19/03/2017 15:12

We decided to give it a miss as my other leader gave birth 2 weeks ago & I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant! But we would have absolutely done it otherwise, I think it's a great thing and I hope they do it more.

ThornyBird · 19/03/2017 15:14

We didn't have a screening near enough to us - it was either Plymouth (1.5hrs away) or Exeter (2hrs) I think. I know my eldest' Snr Section considered it but no other units in our district.

lucysmam · 19/03/2017 15:40

We don't have an Odeon close enough to have gone any more :( what was the Odeon is now a car park! I remember my mum taking me to the ballet there when I was little

harderandharder2breathe · 20/03/2017 17:20

Yes we went on Sunday as the Saturday one was full.

Fab movie!

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 22/03/2017 22:13

One step closer on my journey to becoming a trainer...must be mad!

rivierliedje · 23/03/2017 07:48

Good luck Milly!
