Hope it goes well Groovee, it sounded fun!

Groovee · 01/06/2016 22:48

It went brilliantly. Lots of positive feedback. Our home baking donations were overwhelming.

We sat everyone at tables and afterwards the girls delivered the cakes with tea and coffee or juice and water.

Sounds great :)

I've just had a view from the other side. My DD was at Guide camp. Went to collect this morning. At meeting the leader had said that they would need help loading, unloading, pitching and striking.
It was wet overnight and the tents weren't dry enough for an early strike. DH and I turned up at 11 to help.
By 11.15 over the half the parents had taken their girls and kit without the tents being down and without saying goodbye or thank you. The few of us left helped strike, followed LiC back to base and unloaded the van. It was a full off-grid camp so fires, boilers, toilets, everything needed sorting before LiC could leave. I was horrified for her. In her position I'm not sure I'd ever run a camp again. How can people be so thoughtless?

Groovee · 04/06/2016 16:09

Some parents are utterly thoughtless. If I was her, I'd be sending an email out to the parents regarding the lack of help.

Home after our guiding recruitment. Lots of business type cards handed out.

That sounds grim Bombay I'd definitely send an email but also have the guide equivalent of a pow wow to ask the early deserters why they thought it was acceptable to leave early and how that chimed with the laws. I'd also ask them to tell me why any future camps etc shouldn't be off the table.

I may be contemplating sending an email after some of our brownies with allergies didn't bother to turn up even after reminders that we were cooking, leaving us with very expensive wasted food

Imfinehowareyou · 04/06/2016 17:17

Oh Bombay that's horrible. I hate the assumption that the volunteers are dogsbodies. How draining to be knackered after camp then have to do all that work by yourself. Thank goodness there were some parents with decency. Maybe you should be vocal about your disgust at next Guide pick up!

lucysmam · 04/06/2016 18:02

That does my head in Bombay, quite often I'm one of a handful of us who help tidy up after stuff at school or the library while the majority trot off home Hmm.

I've just washed Bluebell and her uniform...the red cotton has run into the white of her uniform a little bit so now I'm going to wash the red a few more times before making any more and pray no-one notices!

Groovee · 04/06/2016 19:40

Oh no! We had a guess the Bears birthday and MIL has won itConfused

Anyone ever fractured their shoulder? One of our Rainbows has done hers today somehow & mum's not sure about sending her while it heals.

AlbusPercival · 06/06/2016 13:19

oh bless her, not a fractured shoulder but one of my girls has a condition where her shoulder can easily dislocate, we just make sure we dont play any games etc that require swinging arms or running holding hands.

Can you make a similar adjustment?

lucysmam · 06/06/2016 22:17

I've a reasonable sized list of non-running about games now that we can use. And my dd, who is in her class at school, has volunteered to sit and colour with her or play a board game like she did at school play times today so the other girls can still play some sort of running game. She was still her smiley self this morning on the way to school bless her!

Her mam's offered to stay tomorrow evening too to help her cut/stick/colour until we get an idea of what she can do with her other hand & then I can have a re-jig with my AL of the rest of half term.

I spent last night trying to work out how to fit as many of the wonky box logo on an A4 sheet as I can and make them the same size as a few parents have asked about uniforms for Build a Bears & I believe that's the one to use. Went to print it today on normal paper before using the iron on transfer paper and am out of ink . Trying to decide whether to offer them on our fb page to others or not & how to word it now.

lucysmam · 07/06/2016 22:27

Turns out I didn't need to worry too much about the fractured shoulder. She can colour left handedly & just needed help to cut! And surprisingly she was not backwards about letting us know she wanted to run about as usual so everyone was very careful Grin

Great newsSmile

We have 5 new girls starting after the summer!

Need to create a new six. Have polled the other leaders for a new six name and spent ages trying to figure out the best way to move a couple out to be sixer and seconder. Will speak to Tawny and Starry tonight.

One of our leaders is leaving after 4 years. She's going to Guyana for a year to teach maths and science then away to uni! We'll really miss her. So it's her leaving party tonight!

I need Active Kids help - how do I add vouchers to it? Or do I just do it when going through the checkout? I thought I'd seen something where you can add them as you receive them but can't find it now Confused

I'm off to visit DC's guides later on & get the start up grants for our own guide unit signed. Then just need to get word out somehow - not decided the best way to do this yet but I have visions of me sat twiddling my thumbs on our first night back after summer Grin

lucysmam · 09/06/2016 21:50

Hmmm, I'm failing to see how I purchase resources to use as the Guide unit opens when I can't apply for the starting a new unit grant until I actually have some girls by the sound of it. Unless I have missed something obvious.

Groovee · 10/06/2016 07:05

As if your district will loan you some money to pay back once you have some money X

Both DC and DivCom were there last night (they run Guides together), said write and ask them for some cash once I've had the SNUG

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 12/06/2016 18:11

If any of you were on part of the bug Rainbow trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park today, sending you a big wave. I was with the other group that was there!

InFlagranteDelicto · 12/06/2016 18:54

Village fete today. I have an awesome group of brownies (and parents) We had a simple stall, treasure island drawn by our sixers with a sweet hamper prize, and a 'pick a lolly' with donated teddies as prizes. The girls pretty much ran it themselves, with the overseeing adult needing to do very little. Just need to count up our takings- at 20p a go we won't have made a fortune, but the tub was rather heavy walking homeSmile

AlbusPercival · 13/06/2016 14:42

Well done In!

We survived magic and mayhem in the pouring rain, and girls had a blast.

Telling the brownies about my pregnancy and that I am leaving at the end of term tonight. Absolutely dreading it!

Needmyowndesertisland · 13/06/2016 18:45

Tell me more about Magic & mayhem. Wondering whether to try one year. In bucks, so would need a coachConfused

Planning a code/spy night, and came across this. Strikes me a waste of wine!

â—¦White paper
â—¦Paint brush
â—¦2 Tbsp bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
â—¦2 Tbsp water
â—¦Undiluted grape concentrate

Mix together the water and bicarbonate to make your invisible ink. Write your message and allow to dry completely. To reveal paint over with undiluted grape concentrate.

Good luck tonight Albus
