Hope all goes well telling the girls Albus.

Imfine, how's the subs situation going?

I think we need a chat about scissor safety tonight . Making paper plate medals - for Father's Day but they can make for whoever really. Must remember to ask AL if she'd rather do 1st Response or Safe Space at the next training day too.

AlbusPercival · 14/06/2016 15:41

Thanks all,

They were very sweet and very excited about baby.

But one asked me if "you are definitely having a baby or just planning on having one". Umm Hmm

InFlagranteDelicto · 14/06/2016 16:07

Name change fail! Oops!

All set up for codes. It's part of Swallows and Amazons, so here goes. How many do you think will iron their fingers?

That's really sweet Albus.

Scissor safety? Dare I ask?

JazzTheDog · 14/06/2016 16:15

Hi everyone,

I didn't realise there was a guiders chat here. Guide guider here, 20 years and counting!

InFlag, we're doing swallows and Amazon's next term and basing our weekend camp on it in September.

I haven't read all the way through but shall try and catch up Smile

lucysmam · 14/06/2016 16:20

InFlagrante, basic not walking with/wafting scissors about etc. Was having a think about something one of our Rainbows said last week & remembered she was also wandering about with them & pointy (well, round because they're school type scissors, but still...) facing towards the rest of us so think we need to remind them about being careful before we start.

InFlagranteDelicto · 14/06/2016 21:49

Swallows and amazons has been excellent fun. Dutch night a success, outdoor cooking a success, codes- well tonight was chaos. But I get my own back next week, we go geocaching. The joy of the Chilterns, there's lots of contour lines, all close together. That'll wear them out! Most of our district have now done it, to support the pack.

Lucysmam, I raise you the parent in my Sunday school that wouldn't allow her 5yo to use scissors- like you the school style sharp enough for paper but nothing else- because when he was a toddler she'd caught him investigating the contents of his pants with a pair in hand!

We have our first ever pack holiday in Oct. Eeeeek!

lucysmam · 14/06/2016 22:19

Eek, not sure I would let him near them either!

Quite surprised actually, it seemed to sink in. No-one wandered or flounced about with scissors. Everyone remembered to put them down closed when they had finished. Hopefully it will stay that way - they have been warned that if it doesn't, everything will be pre-cut until after the summer hols and then we'll try again. Has got me thinking though - maybe some of them just don't do the basic stuff like cutting out at home so don't know about safety (I presume it's mentioned in schools though before they come out? Might ask dd2's teacher tomorrow if she's free after school).

Dd2 is thrilled...it's her turn with Bluebell this week. No doubt we'll have to take her everywhere we go!

lucysmam · 15/06/2016 11:07

My accounts spreadsheet is doing my head in - it's counting the cheque for the remaining money in the old leader's account as both cash I have in my posession, and paid into the bank. So it says I have a tenner more than I actually do have & I can't work out why Confused

InflagranteDelicto · 15/06/2016 11:36

Ok, some at some point that extra £10 has been entered as cash. Do you have the records to verify everything you've done? I mean really basically, print it out and tick off each receipt? Would that help?

lucysmam · 15/06/2016 12:15

Thanks Inflagrante, I've found it. I entered it twice as being received - once on Sunday when she wrote it for me and then again on Monday when I went to the Post Office to pay it in before I put it in on the banking sheet. Think I was looking so hard I couldn't see them one above the other.

That was very confusing there for a mo.

Groovee · 15/06/2016 21:20

So we have finished for the summer. Looking forward to a rest!

Glad you found itSmile

new5poundnote · 16/06/2016 11:01

Namechanged for a different thread and have forgotten my password so can't change back!!

FINALLY got the subs from my worst offender! Only took multiple texts/conversations and a letter to get there Grin Now I am only missing a tenner from a Rainbow who paid for the first half of this term. I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks though so who knows what's going on there. Still, missing a tenner is better than missing £84.

Albus I'm glad you survived the camp. Did they let you sit on a chair? Grin I had visions of a baby shower for our pregnant leader but she never returned so I couldn't do it!

Lucysmam that sent shudders down my spine. My accounts were riddled with things like that. I keep checking this years (all down to me and no one else) because they always tally and it makes me smile!

I got a hug from a Rainbow who has barely spoken to me or anyone else since she joined in January. She has some extra needs and I was so worried I wasn't giving her the best experience. Really meant a lot to me.

Groovee how on earth have you finished already? Envy

lucysmam · 16/06/2016 13:57

Yay! Glad your subs are (pretty much) sorted (I don't know what to call you now Grin )

It had me panicking a bit when I was checking the cash box and paying in book etc but I found it & all is now right with the world again.

Our local PCSO has confirmed for next Tuesday - I've been warned they have form for just not showing so going to have something to do with strangers up my sleeves/people who may be approachable if help is needed after a few comments from one Rainbow last week. Not sure what yet...Pinterest will probably feature in my evening somewhere Grin

AlbusPercival · 16/06/2016 16:16

I didnt take a chair in the end New no.

However I got bitten by two horseflies. So I covered myself in insect repellent. So I threw up behind one of the craft tents (into the hedge).

Was not my best ever brown owl moment.

Groovee · 16/06/2016 16:40

This time next week I'm finished for the holidays! The joys of Scottish holidays!

1 more guide night here - pond dipping at a nature reserve as an outing for the science badge. Just hoping the weather perks up again by Monday.

drspouse · 16/06/2016 17:00

Oh hello, I think I was on this a while back!

Just done all the paperwork for a joint camp in a tented village and realised I didn't put insect repellant on either the kit list or the health form. I guess we'll have to keep the fire lit...

We're doing Guide Outdoor Cook badge as our main badge (there are so many activities on site we don't need to plan any crafts/other activities really though I may take a wide game to have up my sleeve). But of course the night we did menu planning for that hardly any of them came so they will no doubt complain about not getting the badge.

Becles · 16/06/2016 22:39

4 weeks and a sleepover ro go. I have been in countdown mode

trufflehunterthebadger · 17/06/2016 18:59

Hello all,
Could anyone with Guide helpers in their Rainbow/Brownie unit advise on what you get them doing ? We have 1 guide helper who has been with us for about 2 terms and have just gained another one - one has just turned 14 and one is 15.Having a guiding admin day today ! Risk assessments and planning for September. We have lost 1 leader and our LIC is on maternity leave and won't really be able to come back for some time so I've had to take on a lot more responsibility than I had anticipated when I signed up hahaha

lucysmam · 17/06/2016 20:01

Uff, I know we can't turn our noses up at volunteers but a mum who rarely brought her Rainbow and was awful at communication has volunteered for one (or both) of my units. I need the hands but cba chasing folks.

Groovee · 17/06/2016 23:46

At 14/15 I would say they were young leaders. I often get them to run a game, sit with a six while they are doing an activity. Mine also like to wash the dishes as they get unlimited chat in.

OP posts:
drspouse · 18/06/2016 16:18

If they are Guides they are still Rainbow Helpers but I agree that at 14/15 they should be capable of a bit more.

RueDeWakening · 18/06/2016 16:45

On my way home from the LASER Discover Day in Greenwich Park - am shattered, have walked 16,000 steps and 40 flights of stairs (thanks Fitbit!) so a well deserved early night is calling I think! Fingers crossed I don't fall asleep on the train home... Grin

Lots of interesting stuff though, DD finished her stargazer badge with our planetarium visit, had a chat with our CC and the county events chief bod too. Didn't see the chief guide though, who apparently was roaming around with a giant picture frame, ready for selfies!

Right, where's the gin?!
