what part are you struggling with?

how long do you have to forecast for/? (never opened a unit)

I would multiply the number of girls by the amount of subs for the time period.
So if for example, you thought you would have 20 girls paying 20 a term and forecasting for a year.
20 girls x £20 x 3 terms = £1200 annual income

Expenditure is a bit more tricky I would include
-Annual Rent
-Census - calculate roughly on how many girls + leaders x this years cost for the rainbows

  • Number of badges/ go for its you might do a year x their price
  • What do you roughly spend per year on craft stuff for rainbows

Does that help at all?

lucysmam · 01/04/2016 16:35

I just typed a loooooong ass reply but a picture of the form is easier than my waffle Grin.

I suppose if I ask Brown Owl to have a look how many girls will turn 10 in the coming academic year that might help a bit - I know there are 6 up to the end of Jan when my dd1 turns 10.

Spends for Rainbows crafts has been very little - I'm trying to use the cupboard full we have still!

lucysmam · 02/04/2016 09:55

Aaaarrrrrgggghhh!

Just been on the phone to the LiC I'm taking over from who had just got off the phone to the bank. They can't swap the account to mine and the lady who will be my AL's names because there's a leader on there from years ago and no-one knows how to get in touch with her to remove her.

Groovee · 02/04/2016 09:57

How odd. I would speak to your DC then.

I'm going to, it's just bloody frustrating! Taken so looooong to get the forms & get them signed by the lady I'm taking over from & now this. I've been so well organised too!

Groovee · 02/04/2016 10:36

We had lots of problems changing the bank account when I took over. We had 18 months of no access.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 02/04/2016 10:51

How did that work for buying things you needed?

Groovee · 02/04/2016 11:38

We took cash only for subs for that time and division paid a cheque for our census, which we have them cash for.

OP posts:
Groovee · 02/04/2016 11:38

Gave not have. The annoying thing was we had £800 in the bank account.

lucysmam · 02/04/2016 11:52

Our DC's emailed me back already which I wasn't expecting since it's the weekend.

I'm going to open a new account, the leader I'm taking over from can write me a cheque for the money in the existing one when it's open then we can find the lady (or at least try to) whose signature is also required to shut the old one down.

InFlagranteDelicto · 02/04/2016 21:37

How annoying. I am almost grateful it only took 2 months and several visits! I'm not receiving any statements yet, need to pop in and check that.

I've begun gift aid, just waiting for my wise owl to send me her info for the certificate. Been texting her to arrange a planning meeting next week, so will pin her down. Did you send yours password protected? I've never done that before... Not sure how to!

lucysmam · 02/04/2016 22:54

If you google how to password protect an email attachment, or attachment in email, loads of results come up - I think it was file, info and then encrypt with password but not 100% sure! There might have been a step before the password.

I emailed the password separately with my details in it & haven't had anything back saying it was wrong so presume it was ok. Never done it before either so hopefully I'll not get up to an email on Monday telling me they couldn't get into it Confused

lucysmam · 02/04/2016 22:55

I googled again, 'protect document' before password!

Groovee · 02/04/2016 23:50

Just home from one of the senior section leaders wedding. It was a great night.

Gutted to tell you that axe throwing is now a prohibited activity.

OP posts:
AlbusPercival · 04/04/2016 10:12

Were you planning on it?

Groovee · 04/04/2016 10:35

Hadn't realised it was an activity but now I want to try it!

lucysmam I hope you are nearer to getting sorted. Everything you say rings bells with me Grin LiC tells me she is leaving but won't give an actual date/inform DC. LiC can't/won't put me on bank account but keeps saying we must do it. Ditto gift aid set up. Multiple term's worth of subs/petty cash/fundraising money floating around in bottom of holey canvas shopper alongside yogurt pots/dried out balloons/loose crisps/loose roundabout badges and a file full of everyone's details that were supposed to be shredded. I also had mystery names (3 of them) on the bank account. And a command not to throw things away from the rammed cupboard even though she's left and no longer in charge...and breathe!! Boy, it feels good to get that out .

What do all you Rainbow leaders do for Pot of Gold parties? I want to do something like a softplay birthday party or get a party entertainer in our hall. Do you have some sort of passing to Brown Owl ending? I have heard something about jumping over or going under a rainbow? I know that Beavers 'swim' up to cubs. Am I supposed to do something specific?

lucysmam · 04/04/2016 12:02

Have to say I had no idea axe throwing was even an activity but don't think I'm toooo gutted about it no longer being allowed Grin

Imfine, it's very frustrating isn't it?! I've just had a text today -she can't find old subs/register sheets so must have shredded them so my gift aid claim will only be able to go as far back as last half term I think.

As for the cupboard...that would drive me nuts! I think there's probably enough paper based stuff in ours to do the Rainbows (and probably use some with Guides when we get started) for years to come!

PoG at the mo for us is a small ceremony where the girl going up to Brownies is passed over to Brown Owl (or Snowy if Brown owl isn't there). I want to make it a bit more...something...but that's way down the list at the mo & the girls don't know that other units do it in a more exciting way so not top of the list.

Promise ceremony is pretty much non-existent too; all the girls say it together but I'd like to make more of that as well. Will probably tackle it after the Summer hols though once the admin stuff is mainly (hopefully!) organised.

Imfinehowareyou · 04/04/2016 12:36

How frustrating about the registers (haven't checked if we have copies - eye twitch increases)!

I know someone at a local training course took her Rainbows swimming for PoG and they made a rainbow from a selection of different coloured pool noodles for the girls to swim under Grin I'm looking for something a bit less extreme!

lucysmam · 04/04/2016 13:00

How about just a party party with games, cake and a rainbow bridge/stepping stones (laminated coloured paper shapes) to Brown Owl for the moment? Parties of any kind are exciting when you're that age.

Imfinehowareyou · 04/04/2016 18:49

I love the stepping stone idea - thanks.

We are having the traditional party for the promise party (2 parties this term!) so I wanted to offer them something different. You're right though, they are easily pleased with anything called a party! I asked DD who is a rainbow what we could do to make our party different and she offered up musical bumps instead of musical statues Grin

lucysmam · 04/04/2016 19:29

Grin that's the sort of thing my Rainbow who is currently being an ass about bed time would suggest!

I wondered about combining promise/POG into one end of term party but Brown Owl is usually happy to take the girls on the first Tuesday after their 7th birthday & I don't fancy a party every week Hmm

lucysmam · 05/04/2016 16:42

Back to it tonight! Making a friendship pie to go on our display board, fire drill and handing forms for Build a Bear/Gift Aid to parents...hopefully they'll come back quickly.

Also hoping the leader I'm taking over from remembers I need a copy of her accounts to go with my gift aid claim (not sure whether to send my own as well since they'll start from tonight) and remembers the first aid kit so I can check dates on the contents & write a list of anything we need to replace.

Also need to remind the lady who will be my AL that she REALLY needs to get her dbs check sorted or we'll not be running in 6 weeks!
