I want to do a Ready Steady Cook type activity with my Guides for pancake toppings. Every single suggestion on the Guides Facebook page has been how to make pancakes - I don't want them to make pancakes! Any thoughts on collections of savoury ingredients to give them? Should be veggie too (but they are mainly OK eating proper veggies!)

Groovee · 02/02/2016 21:18

Mushroom and cheese is my fav in a crepe style pancake.

Quick LQ question - I'm just updating our risk assessment so going to put a copy in the relevant part. It also says to explain or show how you'd carry out a fire drill in the meeting place - I'm not sure what sort of format to do it in...

Bullett point instructions? List of fire exits and extinguishers? & meeting point?

Confused

I'd rather do it in person but it's one of the things on my list for next time I see my mentor.

drspouse · 03/02/2016 13:58

Do a fire drill with the girls and get one of them to sign it off.

lucysmam · 03/02/2016 15:44

I didn't realise they could sign it - thanks drspouse. I'll do that first week back after half term.

AlbusPercival · 03/02/2016 16:16

Just booked myself a trip to Pax Lodge, I am waay to excited about it, and no one at home understands why I would want to go "on brownie camp without the brownies"

drspouse · 03/02/2016 20:52

Anyone can sign - girls, parents, man in supermarket when you take them to Farm to Fork. The girls love signing it!

lucysmam · 04/02/2016 08:26

Excellent, that makes my life much easier!

InFlagranteDelicto · 05/02/2016 13:23

That's rather cool, I think there's a couple of bits my girls could sign in mine! Pancakes next week- Eek!

Groovee · 06/02/2016 13:40

Spent the night at Glasgow Science Centre with another brownie group as their first aider. Really enjoyed it.

Is anyone going to Spark?

madwomanbackintheattic · 11/02/2016 00:09

I lost the thread for a bit - just popping back on to say hi!
Everyone sounds v busy!
I have two weeks until the final payment is due for our national jamboree. I am currently 6k short. I have 3k of damned cookies in inventory and no other option but to emotionally blackmail parents into getting their girls to sell the damned things...

AlbusPercival · 11/02/2016 10:22

sounds stressful mad, are you in the US?

Not going to Spark Becles, I couldn't get my head around it enough to decide if it was worth going or not.

We are doing Magic and Mayhem overnight in the summer though.

Becles · 11/02/2016 21:36

Pity. I did Celebrate! and that was great fun.

Would have offered M&M but there's a big region event that I am hoping to do instead.

InFlagranteDelicto · 11/02/2016 23:02

We're not, it clashes with a district event. We've done the cup challenge- awesome! Got giant art attack and super stars lined up for the next half term. Then celebrate for just after Easter. Our one leaver will come back for a couple of meetings to finish it off.

madwomanbackintheattic · 13/02/2016 15:58

Canada, Albus, hence the cookies. I did my maths homework and checked the bank balances and have about $1300 to raise in two weeks. Not quite as bad as I thought, but then we'll have to play catch-up to replenish the bank accounts... So, I'm off to the grocery store to sell cookies for 6 hours lol... I have other volunteers for tomorrow, but today it's just me and dd1 and 2 (who are thrilled. Not.) The joy of being a guider's kid. Grin One of them isn't even going on the camp lol.
No meetings next week as it's half term here, so next meeting is Thinking Day Grin.

madwomanbackintheattic · 13/02/2016 16:01

And our parent meeting is set for 29th. Grin I'm pretty sure I can raise the immediate money and use the balances to pay the bill by the due date, but I look forward to finding out on 29th how the parents think they might deign to raise the rest of the money...

Groovee · 20/02/2016 10:53

Half term over.

Finishing off brownie traditions and doing Thinking Day this week.

madwomanbackintheattic · 20/02/2016 18:06

I can pay my camp bill. Grin You have no idea how relieved I am.
Oh, and quelle surprise, the parents of the twins that didn't bother to take part in our main fundraiser, leaving us $1200 short, can't make it to the parent meeting. I'm sure that can't be because every other parent wants them hung, right? Grin
Thinking Day on Monday Grin
Anyone looked at the WAGGGS fb page? Am I the only one fascinated by the Syrian Thinking Day pics? I have spent a fascinating hour fb stalking Syrian guiders with the translate button. Am well aware that's creepy, but it has given me a wildly different picture to the footage on the TV. I was pondering messaging one, as I can't help but feel this would be an amazing opportunity for my older girls, but I suspect every guider on the www will be doing just that.

InFlagranteDelicto · 21/02/2016 21:07

Shattered after the district Thinking Day event. Started with 19 due to come, ended up with 14 attendees. Was fantastic fun.

We've only got 4 meetings left this term due to a clash with an event at the school. Trying out mouldable candles TuesdaySmile

The parents meeting sounds... interesting! Good luck!

AlbusPercival · 24/02/2016 11:20

Was annoyed with our district thinking day event. Was given no information on the plan, turned up and 3 of the 5 activities are food based.

Have one girl with severe allergies. Who couldn't do any of them

Surprised anyone would plan that much food stuff without knowing the girls or checking with the guiders.

Even would have appreciated a heads up so I could provide an alternative

Groovee · 24/02/2016 17:49

I'm early for brownies as dh had to drop me off. I've forgotten a candle to light BlushConfused

Happy Thinking Day week (but late)

3 Brownies announced that this was their last week as too busy with life. They were going to quit during half term but this week sounded too much fun. Oh, dear after census locked down and contributing to my £775 bill.

But they'll come back for Guides which they expect to start on x Date even though no word with me, join us or guide leaders. Fingers itched so badly
