Bed for 1.30 then up at 2.30, 4 &5.Hmm

drspouse · 24/01/2016 11:43

On the second night? Ouch. Normally they have got so tired by then they just go to sleep!

rivierliedje · 24/01/2016 19:12

Oh dear becles are brownies really that bad at sleeping?! I've only done Guides at camp so far, but next weekend we're having a district holiday with all levels, so will see what that's like.

lucysmam · 24/01/2016 19:54

Yikes! I was considering doing my Going Away license for a Rainbow sleepover but not sure now...

drspouse · 24/01/2016 20:48

Rainbows are great, they ask to go to bed!

lucysmam · 24/01/2016 21:13

Really?

Becles · 25/01/2016 08:48

Second night was great they didn't really rest during quiet time do I told them to keep it to a dull roar.

Last one asleep by 9.30 and not a peep til 7. Result

AlbusPercival · 25/01/2016 09:19

been up all night ill, at work all day, then taking the brownies out for a night hike tonight, this could be fun!

InFlagranteDelicto · 26/01/2016 21:05

I'm starting to get the hang of this now. Third meeting in, it's going ok. Tonight we did the fruit tasting planned by the sixers and seconds (part of the brownie gfi) they've never been given much responsibility before, so its been great to watch, even over three meetings. It's gone well, we've started filling in the adventure books- first time ever for all of them! I even have my oldest three on the old style book.
Next week is only half planned, my partner in crime and I will do it over the weekSmile

Bit scared reading about the brownie camp- we want to do a sleepover at some point. Eek!

lucysmam · 26/01/2016 22:00

Teddy Bears went well! One girl even said it was the best night ever Grin

Need to re think blutack the bow tie on the bear though if we do it again - a fair few got it spot on.

We did have one mishap unfortunately, one of the girls was farting about next to the tables we used for crafts & as she leant on it the table moved...one bumped head and tears Sad

I'm thinking about increasing our unit subs from £1.50 to £2 in line with Brownies from the summer term. Even with very limited spending & a conscious effort to use what we have, I'm not sure there's enough to pay census in the bank & our LiC sort of dithered a bit when I asked her straight. Would be helpful if she'd actually settle on a date to put me on the bank account so I can see what sort of position we are in rather than an educated ish guess

Anywho - has anyone here raised subs? How did you word it to parents?

Groovee · 27/01/2016 05:42

Our lot pay termly and I just sent an email saying that they would £5 more a term.

OP posts:
Becles · 27/01/2016 06:33

We pay termly and are up to about 80% paying straight into the bank account. It's great although there was a lot of resistance by one if the team because 'it isn't allowed' or would be too complicated for parents. Two terms in most money paid by third week and I don't have to faff around looking for a bank without a queue at lunchtime.

Off topic does anyone give badge books yo Brownies?

InFlagranteDelicto · 27/01/2016 06:36

Ours pay termly. Not come across needing to raise it yet! We do have the new starters pay an extra £10 in their first terms subs to cover the pack we give when they do their promise.

lucysmam · 27/01/2016 10:56

I'm trying to introduce at least half termly paying of subs too! Four have managed it - the others, I'm not sure if it's just because weekly is easier (it is for me too) or if they're going to try and avoid paying any missed weeks.

Although all 10 have turned up since parents were told they'd have to pay for missed sessions. Usually someone's missed at least one by now.

Groovee, how did you word your email? Literally just that subs were increasing?

Groovee · 27/01/2016 14:56

Think I said something about subs were increasing as we were finding out running costs were getting higher and that we put 1/3rd of their subs to their census. So it was fine.

My leaders are dropping like flies today. I used to not work on a Wednesday so finding things a bit tough. It's only a term of Wednesday's.

I don't give badge books but encourage them to be bought and give them the link to badges on line!

AlbusPercival · 27/01/2016 15:26

I dont give badge books, but do email links to the mums and write in in the welcome to brownies card I give to new girls

Groovee · 27/01/2016 21:17

Speakers badge went great. All girls were there. It really was a great night.

We're doing Chinese New Year next week.

AlbusPercival · 28/01/2016 06:40

How many do you have Groovee?

Some of mine want to do it, but I cant see all 32 listening to each other

Groovee · 28/01/2016 06:47

We have 14, but I have some very shy girls so we did it in sixes. I've found the girls who won't speak out at a pow wow, work better if they are in the smaller safer group of their six. The more confident ones recited their poems on their own while the shyer ones joined up and recited together.

They all managed to ask their questions and played Chinese whispers. We had a pow wow on the first night so they had that too.

lucysmam your teddy bear night sounded fab. I might have to 'borrow' it for next term Grin

Can anyone help me with these queries?

  1. I have a leader in training who is 21. Is she in the senior section and a young leader, or is she a regular adult? (She hasn't come from a guiding background).

  2. Does a parent helper count in the ratios for leaving the meeting place?

Basically I need another adult to allow us to attend a craft morning and I don't know if my 21 year old is allowed to count or if I need to ask a parent. Thanks in advance.

drspouse · 01/02/2016 13:38
  1. Adult. Over 18s are adults!
  2. Yes.
Groovee · 01/02/2016 14:57

She's an adult leader but as she's under 25 can still be senior section.

Not sure about the parent helper. Does the new leader have her criminal record check.

drspouse · 01/02/2016 15:20

Even a parent helper without a DBS can count in ratios (as long as you don't leave her alone with children).

Imfinehowareyou · 01/02/2016 16:03

You ladies are awesome! Thank you.

Turns out my 21 year old leader in training can't come after all my questions Sad Still, it's good to know that she is an adult (!) for future trips out. Yes, she is DBS checked (or whatever it's called).

And that's great news about the parent counting towards ratios.

lucysmam · 01/02/2016 20:35

Ooh, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night. Our ALiT has a Chinese friend - this friend has dropped off a whole bag full of beautiful things to show the girls. There are lanterns, and decorations, and a noddy cat, and a silk scroll decoration. I wish I'd thought sooner to take some red card from the cupboard to make some of the lucky envelopes she has dropped off (not enough for all the girls). I think printing templates in red would eat my ink like it's going out of fashion unfortunately.

ALiT also has some things of her own for the girls to look at & a couple of easy crafts for us to do.

I'm having a JoinUs 'moment'. A parent has registered both his dd's. One is older than the other by 11 months. I can't decide whether to send one email and make him aware that there won't necessarily be two places at the same time, or send two separate emails and hope he doesn't expect two places to crop up simultaneously Confused.

Also stalled a little on my LQ. Need a copy of the handbook but no-one has one I can borrow until they're back in stock in the online shop.
