How much do you pay for ballet lessons for under 7's

I am a bit shocked to find that dd's pre primary ballet is going to be £6.50 for a half an hour class.

Is this the going rate - £91 a term!

Yes, that's about right.

I pay £46 a term I think. Now I'm paying for ballet, tap and acro it's getting expensive

That seems a bit on the high side for a 30-minute class though, whereabouts do you live?

Around here it costs about that for a class of an hour and a quarter for older children.

Depends where you live I guess? We pay £6 per hour, regardless of the grade, so it would be £3 for a half hour lesson. That's at a RAD school in the NE.

I'm guessing that's not London, you can pay £9 per class round here

£3.80 for a 45 minute lesson with a RAD teacher, all ages are the same (S Wales)

Just wait until the exams start - the extra kit and lessons cost us around £200 this summer

£40 a term for 30 minute lessons. If you do a 2nd class there is a discount (can't remember off hand but I think it's about £5 off the subsequent classes)

I live in the North East, so maybe that's why I'm a bit taken aback at the price.

I think I'll just pay it, the teacher seemed very nice, DD did a trial class and enjoyed it. I didn't ask the price at the time so more fool me.

£5 per half hour at an established RAD/ISTD school here, if you add more classes you get a slight reduction. £1 per half hour for extra lessons in the leadup to exams, but no obligation to do the exams.

Oh gulp £200 for exams! I am not a ballet person so is Grade 1 the first exam?

This school seems to go nursery, pre primary, primary then the grade classes start.

Dd has just done her primary exam. The exam itself wasn't expensive but she needed 3 months of extra lessons, special socks, brand new shoes, a list of hair stuff and we hired the correct leotard and skirt. We haven't even had the results yet - it takes 8 weeks. It required time off school too. It wasn't compulsory but she wanted to do it and she really enjoyed the experience. She'll be going into grade 1 now is September, she'll do that for 2 years before another exam. It also means she needs new uniform and shoes (character) so more money!

We had very little expense for pre-primary and primary exams, other than the fees (about £35 I think). Half a term of extra lessons at £1 a week, £1 for a CD of music to practise at home, no special uniform, just her normal lesson stuff, and a few pounds on hair grips and net buns. Probably £50 in total.

The school show is the expensive one for us £35 for costumes, about £12 each for tickets, then there are professional photos, DVD, programme etc. It's in a biggish theatre and is an amazing experience though.

Oh and no time off school for show ir exams here, it is all at weekends.

I can see ballet is going to be expensive adding in not just term fees but exams and annual show too. It seems a lot more than gymnastics which dd is doing at the moment.

And the last exam cost about £100 (new shoes, pianist, four compulsory extra lessons). I refused to buy a new leotard and skirt, though, that would have been another £25.

Ring round others locally and compare prices, but look at what age range/grade they go up to, somewhere that only teaches beginner end will be cheaper because they aren't likely to have teachers that are as good.
I'm no expert on ballet but it will be the same as any lessons or coaching, you pay the same at low levels because they need good basics and it's the same time for the teacher whatever the level. Plus pre primary can have under 5's in which can make it harder work than teaching dedicated teens.

I think that is why it must be so expensive comparatively Lurkedforever, this dance school goes through all the grades.

I wouldn't be surprised to pay £6.50 for an older child I think it's because dd is under 5 that I thought it was a lot!

Looking at the other prices outside of London it does seem steep, anyway I'll give it a few terms and see if I think it's worth it.

The teacher is the first I've thought was nice so I may have to just pay up for this.

Ours goes through all the grades and various other dance disciplines too, I think it works out at £5/half hour whatever class it is, but older dancers do longer/more classes so it costs more. They don't have their own building, possibly that keeps the costs down.

That does seem steep for the area. My six year old has one ballet class (RAD) £4.00 for half an hour, her IDTA ballet is £2.50 for half an hour. Weekly private ballet lesson is £15.00. Gymnastics, contemp, tap etc all approx £3.50 per half hour, except gym.

Depends where in the NE. That sounds like a Hexham price to me!

However DDs dance school do a package £12.50 a week for as many under 7's / 30min classes as you qualify to take so DD does LAmDa Drama, Singing, Acro, street, ballet,tap,modern and dance conditioning . I'm feeling pretty lucky knowing how much others are paying for a single ballet class.
