I am not making progress lasses - what to do?

hey ladies - tis i again, sorry to be a stuck record but you know the whole push/pull police test saga....(that i failed the pull by 2kg)

ok - so having realised i was not making progress with the pull test i have changed gym to an excellent facility where the owner is an ex army PT trainer, and sport scientist, he runs sport injury clinics, and really knows his onions. the equipment is more in keeping with the test i will be doing.
he is working on strength training for me, but, i fear i now only have a couple, maybe 3 weeks before the next test.

i can hire a personal trainer from this gym. im not sure if it would be a good idea or not.

my programme now is
10 mins warmup on Xtrainer

3 x 6 reps seated row

3 x 6 reps upright seated row

3 x 6 reps chest press

1000mtrs rowing - power and pause technique.

3 x 6 dead row things that i cant remember name of but exercise back

750mtrs on ski erg machine (kills arms!!)

10 more mins rowing

4 x 6 chest press using 2 10kg weights

3 x 6 squats with 12kg weight in each hand

cooldown and stretch,

i then have a protein shake after each workout.

this i am doing 3 times a week with cardio training in between. trouble is i am still not convinced i am getting strong enough quick enough for the up coming test. it was suggested today by the gym manager that i could hire a personal trainer - do you think this would help at all? i realise that they can make sure the techniques etc i use are good, but if they are just going to stand over me while i do this self same routine i cant see how its going to help?
plus - its very expensive, but i have to say i would do it if i thought it would get me though my test.

what do you think? is there any more i could be doing?
cheers in advance.

Sounding good

Can you not specify which trainer you want? I would have thought that is one of the things you are paying for, being able to develop a relationship with the trainer so they know your strengths, your aims, when to push you etc.

If you can pull 35kg whilst sitting on a gym ball then you can definitely do it on that machine.

ThatVikRinA22 · 07/07/2010 21:33

i think i could specify which trainer i want but it was needs must this week and at short notice due to the test date they have given me. if i need any more personal sessions i would choose the gym owner who is ex army and a proper slave driver (but lovely - just no nonsense - if you say you cant do it he just makes you do more!) he was off this week on hols.

he said last week he knows i can do it and just wanted to give me a hug. he knows its my confidence as much as my arms. but - i am feeling way better about it. i have a game plan. i have my plan A and my plan B. all is good.

Great to hear you sounding so positive,

desertgirl · 08/07/2010 18:26

excellent stuff, vicar, you sound like you are going great guns

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/07/2010 10:52

well ive been for the practice. i couldnt get my technique right to start with - but if at first you dont succeed try try again and i did it eventually!

trainer kept saying "you wont do it now - youll be too tired" but i did it. it took about 8 tries, which in my mind proves ive got the strength there - its the technique i was getting wrong.

so im going for the test. if can do it after tiring myself out like that i can do it first go next time. wish me luck!

Good luck, but you won't need it, you know you can do it now

I assume the push test was no problem this time?

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/07/2010 11:25

oh btw - im toying with having an energy drink just before the test....you know - something that 'gives you wings' - with caffeine in. do you think it might help? would it give me a bit of a energy do you think?

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 11/07/2010 21:21

wooo hold on

You can't just go and have an energy drink miss - you don't train fo months for a triathlon and then suddenly on the day take a different drink with you one you havn't tryed before to see what happens on races day...!

what you do is you try the drinks before

be back later dd2 wants a chat..about her tri today!

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/07/2010 22:30

oh good luck to your dd!

so these energy drinks need to be tried and tested then? luckily i have a small stock....i can test, but dont have long!

OP posts:
LostGirl · 12/07/2010 08:01

Totally agree with ivykaty, definitely do not try something new on the day of the test, it could have the complete opposite effect to what you are hoping for if it disagrees with you. An energy drink is not going to make you pass the test, all the training you have done is what is going to make you pass the test. Please, please believe in yourself, you have worked so hard, and you know that you can pass both the push and pull now, you CAN do this, and you WILL pass it. Sending positive vibes and will be watching for the thread announcing your success

ivykaty44 · 12/07/2010 11:45

thanks vicar - dd2 did very well she ran and swam and very fast!

Energy drinks etc - they last possibly around 30 minutes, they are not really the sort of thing you would want for I think the test you are doing.

I am looking at them for the end of a 40 mile ride, so that I have a drink and an energy gel for on the way home. I do try hrad to make sure I eat properly for fuel but am finding that keeping up the speed, I have got faster and now am doing around 16mph I need soemthing a bit extra. I am buring 1800 cals on a 3 hour ride.

I really think like lost girl tha you need to start believing in yourself and know that you can do this with all the trianing you have done - you can do full pressups - which a lot of men frecking struggle with....come on strat realsing your worth

ThatVikRinA22 · 12/07/2010 11:52

ok. ill scrap the energy drink idea then - its just something the force personal safety officer who did the practice with me had suggested. ill stick to my lucozade orange drink!

i need to chill dont i. ill be back leter.

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 12/07/2010 15:28

chill. chill. chill. im trying to be chilled. those vibes could be useful in about an hour and a half folks....

if i can get off the loo to get in the car.

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 12/07/2010 17:16

lucozade orange dirnk is just that - an energy type drinks and if you stick to what you know, its best

good luck and we all know you can do it

ThatVikRinA22 · 12/07/2010 19:32
