first 5k race in 5 days - whats the best plan this week?

That's it basically. Started the couch to 5k at week 4, six weeks ago (had been a gym regular for a few years so didn't start at week 1). Followed it religiously (although last week - week10 if you like, I had a hideous period, medieaval slaughterhouse type thing for 6 whole days, could barely walk let alone run!!! ). Did a 15 min run on Saturday to ease back in and just ran 4 1/2k this morning, which is the furthest I've run so far, just put on some trance music and didn't have a set point to start/finish just kept running.

I always leave one day between runs as I am a couple of stone overweight and feel that it would overtax my knees ankles joints etc, to run more often. Should I do Monday/Weds and then the run on saturday or should I try a short run on Friday or what? What would you recommend?

Your collective wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

You've managed 4.5k this morning. With a bit of encouragement on the big day you'll be fine.?

Thanks minko, i'm not worried that I won't manage the 5k , I'm just wondering how little or how much running is best between then and now iyswim. I think the tendancy can be to panic and overtrain before a race and people tend to recommend less is more?

Hi.

I'm doing my first on Sunday. I have run 5k this morning.

The rest of the week is like this:

1 hr Boxercise class Tues night.
1 hr personal training Wed morning which will include a little 15/20 min run and then other exercises (not legs!).

After that - no more training.
Drink loads of water, load up with the carbs for energy on Friday and Saturday and then have a great run on the day!!!!!

Good luck!

I read recently that the best day to take off is two days before the race, and to just do a couple of short easy runs on the two days preceding it. Just do what you feel comfortable doing and I expect you'll find on the day that the adrenaline, the other competitors and the support from the sidelines will help to spur you on regardless. Good luck, and hope you enjoy it
