Am really, really loving the running, and although I've been a gym bunny for a few years, I am a chubby 'apple' with all my weight round my middle and I would love to be a much healthier shape. I generally eat very healthily, but I have a few bad habits that are keeping me a chubster. I am pretty sure it could be sorted if, in tandem with the running, I:

  1. relegate alcohol to the weekend
  2. eat earlier; bad habit of feeding ds then eating supper waaaay late
  3. keep g&t fuelled snacking (am loving those crips/olives/nuts etc!!!) to the weekends along with the g&t

Anybody else got any good habits they would like to work on, or just generally clean up their act?....or is it just me?

can i join you? am doing the exact same as you already run and cycle most day's as im training for two half marathons this year. but my diet and alchole consumption is awfull

re olives, nuts, crisps, dip way too much bread butter and lots of red wine.

although im fit my waist seems to be getting... um well thicker.
have also relegated alchole to weekend only now im just trying not to consume a weeks worth in two days and eating at night needs to be addressed to as dh gets home late and i like to eat with him. also eating the kids leftovers aswell as my own food.
Hmmmm now its written down looks like lots to work on

Okay, not done yet but taking a quick break. So, am also supping a gin and pimms but need to get my head into gear first!!! I tend to be a bit of an 'all or nothing' person, and I know from experience that if I set my goals too high, I will wilt at the first sign of failure. Better to start small and work up!

For me, on Saturday, I have 6 weeks til my 5k run. So, my goals are, from Saturday:

  1. I will have at least 3 alcohol free nights a week, with my ultimate goal being weekends only.
  1. On those nights I will eat at kiddies tea time and no snacking on crisps or other fatty stuff afterwards. If I want to nibble, I will have veg stix and home made hummus or fruit, etc.
  1. Won't be weighing myself, but will measure my waist/hips on Saturday and then again the day after the race.

Will post on here every day to report my progress, if you still want to go ahead mothersmilk? Hope so, it would be good to have a fatty to fitty buddy!

I have been eating "sensibly" for 2 weeks and have lost 5lbs.
Main reason- dh away for a week, so I ate a good salad based lunch with protein, then just some cereal/crackers for tea.
No alcohol till Friday night.
Really asking myself- am I hungry or bored.
Have come to the conclusion I don't want to eat much in the evening- so dh is eating what the kids have apart from the weekend.
I only want to lose another 3lbs- am running every other day- only for about half an hour, and swimming 2 or 3 times.

Well done deaddei, I think that is the answer really, finding out what it is that works for you. Know what you mean about dh, mine is here all the time (is disabled and I'm his main carer) but tonight he is at a friends and somehow, I'm not scoffing like a mad thing!!!

I had an eating disorder as a teenager, so I don't weigh myself, but am pretty sure that the measuring thing will work.

It sounds like you are really doing well. Once I do my 5k, I am going to do a similar training plan to do a 10k, so am hoping that will help me keep up the good habits I adopt. Also have recently taken on an allotment 25ftx100ft, so all the digging has to help!!!

I go out running with dd (13) which is nice as we have a chat.
I did a 5k 3 years ago- no training, 47 and did it in 35 mins!!!

dandycandyjellybean · 05/05/2010 21:54

Wow, that is fantastic! I had real bad plantar fascitus when I first started running about 3 yrs ago, and could barely walk for about a year, so I have only just started again, and am being very, very careful to take it slowly and progress steadily. AS I said, I'm an all or nothing gal, and a 5k with no training is just my style! But, with having dh and ds to look after I just can't take any chances, and it is helping with the whole idea of 'self discipline' for me to keep to my training plan and not push myself too far.

Do you know what kept me going on the 5k?
Seeing all these much older women running past me!
Also it's a very emotional day, and such a great atmosphere!
Go for it!

So, measured myself today, ds 4 said, are checking to see how many inches fat you are mummy?

Did my first 20 minute run of the programme today. Exactly 2 weeks ago I did a sponsored walk/run related to the london marathon and we had to cover 3.2 km. 2 weeks ago i did that in 34 minutes. Today I did exactly that in 29 mins and 40 secs, so I have taken 4 mins 20 secs off my time and am very well chuffed!!!

Am drinking tonight, but have discovered a lovely new snack at Aldi called Satin Crunch made with tapioca flour and cassava, and the Thai sweet chilli flavour are lovely. At 81 cals a bag and 1.7g fat, I am allowing myself 2 bags and saving myself loads of cals/fat compared to normal. Tommorrow will be my first non drinking day for a bit, so will post on here how I'm coping. Early tea and only healthy snax.

Thanks for all your support deaddei. Hey mothersmilk, where are you, I need a buddy!!!

So, did my first road run today - man it feels so much harder than on the treadmill. I felt like any minute now I was going to be overtaken by old ladies!!!

However, I did a 'mapmyrun' thing last night and had plotted a course for 3.03k, but when I was running I found that it wasn't enough, and when I plotted what I had actually run when I got back, I had run 3.59k in 34mins which is the longest I've run so far!!! Couldn't believe it!

Alcohol free is a complete wash out at the mo, although I have been really good about cutting out the usual snax; one small step and all that . Will keep working on the other ~ am obviously a total lush!!! Never mind a biscuit, I think we should have a wine glass emoticon!
