I have been advised by my physio to start doing pilates on a regular basis to help strengthen my core muscles.

The shallow part of me would like to know is whether it will help me loose weight and tone up all over, maybe increase fitness and strength?

And how many classes a week do you think you be a start??

I go once a week to a class run by my physio. She is APPI registered (Australian Physio Pilates Institute). If you can find one near you, it is well worth it.

It's really great, and I feel very strong and toned. Whilst I have been losing weight, I think that is down to diet rather than the pilates. I think I also look slimmer due to better posture.

A good instructor will give you tips on how to incorporate it into your daily routine, so I would suggest that one class a week would be enough.

Makes you seem slimmer by helping your posture and pulling in your muscles, tones your abs and back and legs and helps with strength (by holding static poses) but by itself wont get you fit - will do though if you combine with other cardio and weightbearing exercise.

I used to go a few years ago and really enjoyed it, plus had the flattest stomach I'd even had. I only went once a week but was doing other exercise too at the time. Its also really good for general posture - if I remember now I try and hold myself better.

APPI website. There is a search facility to find a local instructor.

one class a week is enough and tbh it is too bloody expensive to do more! i can't afford it atm and really miss it.

I thank you, you lovely people!

The class that I have been recommended by my Physio is right next to a gym so if the funds stretch, I can do both!
