Hi,

I'm a new runner, a complete beginner and I'm on week 5 of those podcast couch to 5k things. I'm finding it so hard to keep up my motivavtion- had a horrible cold last week.

Where can i find someone to go running with? I'm going to a running club thursday so hoping thay will help. I want to enjoy it, not to dread it!

Running with a buddy (especially a mummy buddy) is a great idea!! Ideally you need more than one buddy, a group of three or four is best as if one can't make it, the others don't get to chicken out / have to run on their own.

Running clubs can be really friendly too.

See if there are any women's running network groups in your area. here

Put an advert in your local area on here / Netmums.

A few years ago, I wanted to find a running buddy, so advertised on Mums boards and also talked to other mummies about it, I had a few unexpected volunteers and we started with 5 of us. We then put some flyers up around town and 5 years later, the group is still going (I've moved away) and there have been lots of women through the group and there are a group of regulars who still run each week.

Good Luck - and get yourself a target to aim for - Race for Life is a good on.

Hi goodtimes! I live two miles past the back of beyond so running with a friend is never possible - only possibility is DH but he needs to babysit DS's! I have just started up again with ambition but no ability whatsoever...!

So, I wondered ...if you cannot find a likely candidate (or even, until you do, if you would like a virtual running mate, I'd be happy to chat with you. Either on here or via my hotmail, which I check daily.

i am planning to do two runs a week - three if I can squeeze an extra one in. But it is hard! I totally agree with DeidreB about having a goal - Race for Life is brilliant - is there one near you? I did two last year and they were both a great atmospnere - all ladies, mostly all dressed in pink, united in both grief and celebration of life for a great cause.

Anyway, do let me know if you'd like to swap tales to keep you motivated!

Hi,
Thanks for replies. I would like a virtual running buddy yes!

I keep meaning to sign up for race for life, hopefully no more colds so should be able to get back into it this week.

Had a look on the running website, nearest group is Lincoln.

I am in Leicester, so if there are any would-be runners out there, let me know...

Great link Deirdre, thank you! Hi good times,...I have looked in on Deirdres chat thread - its real nice! I have popped a post on there too so if you want to chat there with some lovely posters, I am there too now.I am not anywhere near Leicester - I am up in North Yorkshire

Anyway, I am planning to get out on Friday evening and again on Sunday. I hope your cold has cleared up for later today - let me know how you get on at the club tonight.

LittlePushka. Where in NYorks?

OrmRenewed · 18/03/2010 14:25

If you keep plotting new routes and change them regularly. It really helps. I find that music or listening to the radio on my mp3 helps.

But make sure you are over your cold first. it can make you feel really bad if you start before you are better,
