Can I put my nice new running shoes in the washing machine?

They got quite dirty today and I am a fusspot of huge proportions. Also, I haven't had them long.

Can I wash them in the machine or shall I just get over it?

are they fancy ones you can't afford to replace? have to say i wouldn't be in any hurry to wash unless they were impossibly stinky. warm water and an old washing up brush would get the worst off, no?

i really don't understand why they make them all white. i was looking enviously at the mens grey and brown ones when i bought mine yesterday, i wonder if there's any reason why i couldn't wear those in future? the ones i have, whilst comfy, are without question the ugliest shoes i've ever seen will be quite chuffed when they get a bit muddier tbh

If they are proper, serious running shoes, then no, do not put in wash. If they are just for walking around the shops etc, then yes.

Washing machine wrecks their cushioning and melts the glue. So my local running shop tells me.

I like my real running shoes to look dirty and well used

People who turn up to the running club in 'glow-white' trainers tend to get teased a bit.

Ah thank you! All good points.

Yes they are for running. I only started last Autumn but got these a couple of months ago once I realised I needed proper running shoes rather than any old cheapy plimsolls and they make such a huge difference.

This morning though I ended up trundling through some particularly squelchy mud. Now they've dried off a bit they don't look too bad and a bit more like they belong to someone who has been doing it for a while so I shall leave them I think.

Don't wash them. If you have clean bright white shoes other runners will sneer at you

I shall also be sneering at bright white post Xmas trainers too from now on

you won't be able to see the dazzling white of my new trainers since it'll be outshone by the puce glow from my face. no sneering at me no sirree

Ha, I can beat that! My bright pink face matches the exact shade of my running jacket...
