spinning. i wear aheart rate monitor and burn around 500 - 580 calories per hour spin.

branflake81 · 27/01/2009 11:52

well surely it would depend on how fast you were running on the treadmill?

MadameCastafiore · 27/01/2009 11:53

Running outside burns 10% more calories than on a treadmill.

i like spinning, more interesting then a tread mill and burns loads of calories. plus i hate running so not much of a choice for me

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 16:18

I think it's spinning.

spinning

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/02/2009 10:16

The one you will stick at. Or probably a combination of all 3 so you don't get bored.

BitOfFun · 14/02/2009 10:18

For me it would be a treadmill, as the spinning is so uncomfortable and unpleasant I know I wouldn't keep it up regularly, so Saggar makes a good point.

I have done spin classes and they don’t burn as many calories and are nowhere near as enjoyable as a good outdoor run. But the treadmill is really dull and I struggle to do more than 5k on it.

UnaOfStormhold · 19/06/2026 07:44

Definitely the one you will stick to! Personally I much prefer exercising outside - more interesting surroundings and being in nature is good for mental wellbeing.

If working out indoors many people like the group dynamic of spinning classes and having instruction to break up the workout and encourage you to push. Running gets the heart rate up higher and less time goes further unless you're doing a lot of sprinting on the bike. But if you're not used to running, build up gradually particularly if you are carrying extra weight.

I would think the one you can do for the longest length of time - I can run for 30 - 40 minutes but can do a 60minute spin class.

You've resurrected a 17 year old thread! I wonder if @okunka ever found the answer 😅

Diet and weights is the best combination for weight loss.
