@Enrichetta definitely agree re cardio. I do like running but it's also social time with a friend for me so mentally beneficial too for someone who WFH.

It's honestly so sad about your friends! Do they bot see how fit and well you are and want to emulate you?

Fibrous · 05/06/2026 19:49

welcome @nonmerci99 - great to have some unbridled enthusiasm on this board 😁

I haven't been doing Caroline's workouts for that long, probably a year now, but I was a gym goer before that. I was encouraged to push myself too far in the gym and kept getting injured so swapped out to working at home. Which hasn't injured me but my motivation does lag somewhat. I could definitely do with the motivation of a new program. Anyhow, I'm having a stab at Iron and enjoying it when I do. I'm off on holiday next week but when I get back full of cheese and cream (it's France), I'm going to make an attempt at locking down a routine and eating better.

@Enrichetta That’s so inspiring, Enrichetta. I think all women should lift weights! My mum is in her mid 70s and I’ve been begging her to start some light weights, as she does no exercise and is stuck in an old school diet culture where all she really cares about is strict calorie restriction. She has no muscle mass and I worry about how she’s going to age. It’s awesome how mainstream lifting has become for women otherwise, it’s never been on my radar and I had no idea how much I would enjoy it.

You are right about regular cardio! I like the YouTube programs as there is one day of deadly cardio per week, though certainly I should be aiming for 3!

You are right to be concerned about your mother. When my mum fell and broke her hip, she never walked again as she simply did not have the strength.

Even if your mum refuses to work out, could she be persuaded to walk with weights - wrist and ankle weights and/or a weighted (3 kg) vest? Just 10-15 minutes a day could make a difference.

Some of my friends are too frail - or think they are too frail - to work out. Even before they became frail, their attitude was “I couldn’t possibly do that”….. meaning they just couldn’t be bothered.

However, one friend started to do silver swans ballet in her late 70s. She’ll never be really fit but it has certainly improved her balance significantly, and as a result she is now walking much more than before.

samthebordercollie · 05/06/2026 20:26

@Fibrousenjoy your holiday in France! I’ve lived here 25 years now, married to a Frenchman and am probably fitter and slimmer than I would be if I still lived in the UK. I won’t bore you with the reasons, there are loads!
I was really please to see that weight training made the headlines here in France and the UK yesterday as being important for longevity. I hope people will now start realise the importance of resistance training now the BBC confirmed it 😂 even my 91 year old father now believes it, whether or not he starts to do it is debatable.
@nonmerci99wl’école and sorry about all the negativity here currently, I love Caroline she made me fall in love with lifting, I just think she’s letting down her App subscribers a little with only 2 programmes this year. If you start a subscription App you need to deliver!

Enrichetta · 05/06/2026 20:34

Regarding motivation, @Fibrous - I do two things. Unless there is an overriding reason, I’ll do my workout every morning, at least 6 days out of 7, within half an hour of my early morning cuppa. Once I put on my gear and get started, I’m fine.

Secondly, I try to vary my workouts, either by adding on a short Tabata cardio session, or 15 minutes of planks or 10 minutes wall sits, or doing a Growingannanas or Heather Robertson workout in amongst all the Caroline Girvan sessions. Sometimes, if I get bored, I just do whatever I fancy while she does her endless hip thrusts and Bulgarian lunges.

Fibrous · 05/06/2026 21:13

@Enrichetta yeah doing it first thing would be good but I have to walk the dogs first thing. When we move we’ll have a big garden so I can just let them out and get on with lifting, that would make a big difference.

@samthebordercollie I lived in France for five years! In Grenoble. I was the fittest I’ve ever been then and ate the most cheese and drank the most wine of my life. I also cycled to work every day and had great hair as the humidity was much lower 😆. I definitely peaked when I lived in France, it’s been downhill since. I was single when I lived there though and a bit lonely so back to the UK I came.

Yeah my parents never exercised and they are not living well into their 70s. My family on both sides seem to live forever so you don’t want to spend half your life feeling like crap and unable to do stuff. I’m one of five - two of us have always exercised and the difference is starting to show compared to the others now we’re hitting our fifties.

Melassa · 06/06/2026 08:11

I’m not good at getting stuff done early mornings. On the days I WFH I tend to do a workout in my lunch break. Many years ago I used to do Jillian Michaels every morning before trundling into work, but those were the days when I had a child to get ready for school and went to the office every day. No such resolve to get up earlier nowadays, unfortunately, I like my coffee in bed while I read the news and emails.

@samthebordercollie i also lived in France in the late 80s. I actually got more chubby when I was there as ours was the party house and everyone would pop round after clubbing with offerings of fresh pains au chocolat and croissants from the just opened bakery. I’m sure if I’d lived a less nocturnal life I’d have been fitter. That said, living in Italy I’m certainly healthier, slimmer and fitter than if I’d lived in the UK. The quality of food is so much better, the weather certainly is (even with the intense heat in the summer), as is the wine. The culture here is to enjoy and not overindulge, which I think is a lot healthier overall.

In the meantime I’ve been doing Heather Robertson’s Metcon series and have managed to exacerbate my Achilles tendon from one of the jumping jack combos. Not sure if I should attempt another one or stick to upper body strength only. I will go for a walk and decide.

Fibrous · 06/06/2026 09:36

@Melassa Grenoble had a great techno scene so I hear you on the 6am croissants! I used to get the first tram home (I lived in a village 10k out) and stop off at the bakery just as it was opening before spending the day in bed.

My achilles tendon has been bothering me for months but it just doesn't seem to go away completely. Trying to do more yoga. Next week is a hiking holiday in the alps so I'm sure that's going to aggravate it like mad but we have a sauna at the hotel, hoping that helps.

Hello all!
I am still bumbling along doing various sessions I fancy each week. Today I did the new shoulder and I liked it. Was rather shock by the way ch looked though. Maybe it was a different spray tan, over head lighting but she looked really odd and sinewy.

OP posts:
Enrichetta · 22/06/2026 21:17

Still bumbling along is a good way of describing my current approach to fitness 😸

My system, loose at it is, is to randomly choose various full-body workouts from different CG YouTube programmes, add in my usual plank plus a few pushups, as well as Lucy’s good old Thighs & Glutes….. if I’m in the mood - and/or a short Growingannanas Tabata session if I can be bothered.

And every week I say “I must do one of her programmes from start to finish….. which one shall it be…… maybe Epic 3 or Heat”? Rinse lather repeat.

At least I’m recovered from my injury and back to using 10 and 12.5 kg dumbbells 💪

samthebordercollie · 23/06/2026 20:10

Hello from a sweltering France! It’s been 40C here in the day and 27C is the lowest temperature at night so sleeping well has been impossible and working out very sweaty. I think the heat dome is crossing the channel so good luck. I’m still doing a hybrid of mostly PE and Intent with some kettlebell workouts thrown in. I didn’t do the new delt workout @BigButtonsbut had a look, I thought Caroline looked tired but then she’s getting older and also tiny in her new ‘studio’. I wish she wouldn’t have the fire lit with the doors wide open, it’s just wrong!

TessTickle0 · 23/06/2026 20:56

I am mostly doing the schedule she puts up-I have changed things around due to heat and my work hours etc.
So, due to this I have found the MAX programme and love it.
I am also doing Cardio from Beastmode and full body days from REV because they have some cardio too.
I might just continue with MAX(and add in her new workouts as and when) until Sept.
Still wish we had been told the length in between programmes so i could have decided sooner on what i was going to do.
saw "you know who" had commented on her latest video with some subtle little digs.

Melassa · 23/06/2026 21:49

I’ve been doing a mix of CG’s Heat leg days or upper body days and HR’s Metcon series. Due to the heat I’ve been doing more Metcon with lower weights than strength training. It just seems that everything is so much heavier in 38°. I try to stick to mornings and have a large fan trained on me all the time, but it is hard work.

i have my op next week and I’ve been told to desist from strenuous activity 3 days before. No idea why, but with this heat it won’t be hard just to stay horizontal. Or hop from air conditioned shop to air conditioned shop.

whatwoulddexterdo · 23/06/2026 21:53

Hello 👋
I am repeating MAX
There was one programme I really enjoyed and couldn’t remember which one, I think it’s MAX but it could be the REV series 🙄🤣
Actually really enjoying it
Circuit style which I know is not for everyone
Yes I saw the subtle digs
But not everyone wants to do glute bridges and delts ad infinitum ……

BigButtons · 24/06/2026 06:15

@whatwoulddexterdo that is so funny that you like those two- I loathe fb days and I loathe circuits🤣

right am going to look for the diggy comment.

BigButtons · 24/06/2026 06:20

Oh do you mean the whoop whoop man? I am sure he watches this thread amongst others. I don’t read anything he posts, ever.
i cannot stand the endless bridges and thrusts. They do not work my glutes in an optimum position. I know they are effective but apparently research is showing that glutes are better worked lengthened rather than shortened?
why is she not doing any new chest and back stuff at all? Why is her spray tan getting darker and darker? Why does she have that fire on and the doors open. I don’t think she looks very healthy atm.

OP posts:
TessTickle0 · 24/06/2026 08:44

Yes the whoop whoop man
We know he read this thread and I firmly believe he still will be doing.
I thought just by going off the picture of the new workout that her stomach looks concave.
The fire and doors opened annoyed me too 🤣 she also had a candle lit at the same time which I was also annoyed at 😀
Was beginning to believe she must be injured because of all the lower body workouts most being bodyweight, maybe she is.
I prefer upper body days so I would like a new chest or back workout.

whatwoulddexterdo · 24/06/2026 18:29

I can’t understand how someone who comments and post so prolifically gets offended when people talk about it, surely they are doing it for attention and have self esteem issues.
I also don’t know how people have the time to comment on every single workout and post loads of pictures and videos of themselves doing this- really very strange but each to their own

It does make me laugh that the same group of people fall over themselves trying to comment first and studiously ignoring each other , very interesting from a psychological perspective 😊

BigButtons · 24/06/2026 21:47

Whoop boi has a huge number of issues. He is enormously annoying and child like- my opinion- I actually think he is a negative in Caroline’s army. A lot of people dislike him intensely and the fact that the the CGX machine seems to support him is doing itself no favours . Hope mr whoop whoop boi is reading- I am sure he is- but he needs the attention 🤷🏻‍♀️

Won't be long before we have to delete all these comments too.
I want to know why goback got banned from on here?
It's such a shame she was very informative (more so than silly boi)and funny.
This thread isnt the same without her, and knowing he's creeping about in the background is also annoying

TessTickle0 · Yesterday 09:27

No wonder he's always writing whoop whoop 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Minesril · Yesterday 10:21

I find it interesting from a psychological perspective that a man would dominate a facebook page that is predominantly visited by women, and then, not happy with that, would come onto a parenting site predominantly visited by women and try to sensor their conversations. It’s fascinating.

I’ve deleted the CG app for now. We’ll see if the amount of new content picks up! I’m working through Heather’s 12 week 2.0 and really enjoying it - my body definitely needs the bursts of cardio. I’ve also started doing some ruthless calorie counting. I’m five foot six and (was) nearly 78 kilos. It didn’t look terrible on me because of the amount of training I do, but I’d like to be under 70. It is so very, very boring. I am tracking everything I eat in Numbers on my phone and it’s so depressing how quickly the numbers go up! Why can’t you lose weight through exercise alone? 😩
