Alternative to a Peloton bike 🚲 - one that connects to apps?

I could almost be persuaded to splash out on a second hand Peloton but the mandatory £39/month running cost would annoy me!

So, I’m looking for an alternative please. I have seen some brands have ‘connect’ capabilities where they can connect to the Peloton app, which appeals. Some also have screens and/or casting from your phone. But I’m a bit overwhelmed by choice.

Does anyone have any recommendations please? No more than £400-500.

Thank you!

presumably any bike with bluetooth connectivity.

But you’d still have to pay for the app?

Yes but the app if you don’t have a Peloton bike is £12.99 a month. If you do have a Peloton bike, it’s £39!

And, of course, if you have a regular bike then you can you it with any app or none. Whereas my understanding is that without the £39/month app, the Peloton bike is a clothes horse.

So - if anyone has any non-Peloton recommendations I would love to hear them! Thank you ☺️

Stages bike?

Do you have a bicycle? You could use Zwift, that’s what my DH does. Takes the back wheel off his road bike, hooks it up to the base unit and connects to the app to do virtual rides. Cheaper than Peloton for sure.

i must admit I love my Peloton and think it, and the 39 a month, are very much worth it. Not just bike rides is it. Strength, and yoga, meditation, walking, running etc. For the amount on there i think it is good value

I have a cheap Amazon spin bike and a Bluetooth…. Thing from wahoo. That attaches to the pedal and wheel and connects to the peloton app.

Gymbunny2025 · 18/05/2025 14:42

@FromNowthe app is £24 per month not 12

so if there are 2 or more in your household it’s cheaper to get the peloton. Personally being able to use the peloton bike during rides makes the difference of £15 worth it anyway. But I do totally understand not everyone would agree with that! I do know a lot of people who do eventually end up buying a peloton bike though (to replace their watt bike)

Stages
wattbike

friend has a watt bike and loves it. I use stages bikes in the gym and happily connect to Zwift. No idea if they do the peloton app too but I’d guess so.

Stages bikes at the gym tend to have their own classes @MoominUnderWater ☺️

Yes, I use them during a spin class but I also use them inbetween classes when the spin studio is emoty and connect to Zwift.

Sorry ignore me I completely misread your post 😂

My husband uses zwift
and connects his actual bike to the "thing" by taking the wheel off.

My children use it as well, and their bikes easily fit on. (just 1 bike at a time, obvioulsy but it only takes a minute or so for DH to swap bikes)
