Best bum exercises?

I'm following lots of different glute exercises on YouTube, but wondered if anyone has any experience of any particular ones that really worked for them?

I'm just getting back into exercise after a few years of ill health. I've lost 2 stone with a couple more to lose, but I'm an apple shape and it all comes off my bum before my stomach 😭

There are loads of individual muscles in your bum so you need a decent Combination of different exercises to work them all. Plus to build shape you really need to lift heavy as they are strong muscles.

It's very hard to make a lot of difference with glutes. They take a LOT of work.

I know how you feel - since meno I have to have no arse before it even starts going from my belly.

Dead lifts
leg presses
heavy squats
weighted hip thrusts

A tip from a magazine decades ago.
Walk, not run, up stairs two at a time.

Squats and weighted hip thrusts are the exercises that I can really feel working my glutes.

Hill running is great for your bum.

Pamela Reif on YT is really good, and she has lots of different playlists, one specifically for legs and bum, they are all quite short videos, so you can do different ones to target the different muscles. Its really helped my butt get almost back to its pre baby shape!

Dead lifts, squats, lunges, yoga,

Thanks for everyone's advice.
I forgot to say I have really weak knees which makes squats difficult, but I'm going to look into using weights as some have suggested.

You could start doing lying down exercises to build up a bit of strength first if knees are an issue. As pp said weighted hip thrusts. Also clamshells. Plus some Pilates can be killer for bum with no weights at all.

Just coming back to say after a very hard step/LBT class they can seriously work your glutes and worth considering if they have one local to you. Plus do much fun working out in a group!

The ‘80s one where you sit on the floor with your legs out straight in front of you and walk across the room on your bum with your arms held out in front of you, and then do the same going backwards.

Do you want tight, high glutes or big booty glutes? If it's the former, follow Courteney Fisher on FB - she's very lean and does the Pilates type workouts. If it's the latter, try Krissy Cela - she's into lifting and the 'juicy butt' look.

I run and conscious that it shrinks my butt so 4 x a week do the following:

Weighted lunges with 6kg dumbbells (3 sets each side)
Sumo squats with 7kg ball (3 sets)
Regular squats with booty band (3 sets)
Cable kickbacks (3 sets on each side)

Hip thrusts.
