Starting weight for couch to 5k

I might be overthinking this! I was a very frequent runner up until a few years ago but gained a lot of weight in a short time following a period of injury and illness. The weight is now coming back off and I would love to get back to running and thinking of doing C25K but I'm still overweight (actually a couple of pounds into obese category) and I have never run before when big. It worries me that I would be damaging my knees etc and I wonder if I should wait till I have dropped at least another stone. I'm fine for shoes at least, still have a boxed pair of Saucony Omnis which have always been perfect for my flat as pancakes feet.

Would love to know what sort of weight people were when they started C25K and if it caused any issues.

Hi! I have done couch to 5K a few times, but would suggest running on grass if you are recovering from injury.

I am hoping to go back again and have another go, but need to strengthen my core muscles after giving birth 9 months ago. My back is always going.

Good luck!

don't expect to shift weight on c25k unless you cut down on food too

Update: I found a Shock Absorber bra that fit, dug out my shoes and did session 1 yesterday. I felt like all sorts of body parts were wobbling and it is definitely much harder running at this weight than two stones lighter but still really enjoyed it. I'll do session 2 tomorrow or Wednesday depending on weather.

Well done @evilharpy 🙂 that's a great achievement! Getting out there for day one was the hardest step for me. I'm on week 2 of C25K. Hope your legs are feeling ok today!

@SoapCollector they are fine from the running but they are not fine from doing day 1 of Caroline Girvan Iron yesterday, ouch!
